    The club held an impeccably observed minute s silence before play started in honour of the great Australian cricketer and broadcaster Richie Benaud who sadly passed away on Friday Leicestershire made one change from the team that beat Cambridge MCCU with Charlie Shreck coming in for Jigar Naik Rob Taylor missed out with a back injury while Clint McKay arrives in the country this week after getting married Rudolph called correctly and elected to make first use of the pitch on a dry bright but very blustery Grace Road It proved to be a great decision as the pitch played well and the wind made bowling nigh on impossible from the Pavilion End The majority of runs early in the Glamorgan innings were guided or edged behind the wicket as the new ball asked plenty of questions Sheikh steamed in from the Bennett End while Ben Raine bowled accurately into the wind in an effective partnership Raine had an early appeal for leg before against James Kettleborough while Sheikh nearly dismissed Rudolph before he had scored The left armer extracted plenty of bounce but the ball rose above the head of Ned Eckersley who couldn t hold the difficult chance Leicestershire s diligence was rewarded with the score on 27 as Kettleborough 10 edged the lively Sheikh and O Brien took the catch behind the wicket Rudolph and Bragg had to battle and then took full advantage of getting themselves set Rudolph cracked a brace of boundaries through the off side and Bragg neatly tucked a couple of fours off his toes as the stand progressed to 75 by lunch The duo continued to accumulate after lunch with Rudolph first to 50 from 100 balls with seven fours The partnership reached three figures before Bragg recorded his half century from

    Shahzad s new ball partner Alasdair Pollock bowled both Ned Eckersley 1 and Angus Robson 14 to leave County struggling Cosgrove played superbly to lead a recovery at a ground that enjoyed pleasant sunshine throughout the day A total of 76 of the skipper s runs came in boundaries as he took the attack to the bowlers Cosgrove started as he meant to go on opening his Leicestershire account with a rasping on drive to the ropes He formed a vital alliance with fellow Leicestershire first class debutant Neil Pinner who continued his good form The duo shared 78 to take the score into three figures before Ruari Crichard produced a full delivery and trapped Pinner 32 in front Cosgrove progressed to a 49 ball half century that included ten fours most of which punctured the off side field The captain continued to dominate and took four boundaries off Crichard in his next over Niall O Brien 7 played a super cover drive to the fence but was then caught in the same region next ball off Adil Arif to leave County on 127 5 Tom Wells 1 was bowled by Shahzad as Leicestershire lost a sixth wicket before two consecutive boundaries in the lunch over from Cosgrove demonstrated his class One raced through extra before anybody blinked and the next was a subtle touch that evaded a diving fielder at third man Leicestershire went in on 145 6 with Cosgrove on 81 and the left hander was in touching distance of a century when his innings was cruelly cut short Cosgrove shaped up to send another ball to the off side boundary but on this occasion a Shahzad delivery clattered into the wicket off an inside edge Naik joined Raine to form the biggest stand of the innings which

    1st April 2015 Robson makes another 50 An interview with new Club Captain Mark Cosgrove is available HERE Angus Robson registered his second consecutive fifty and Mark Cosgrove made his first appearance for Leicestershire in the intra squad game today In total 25 players were named in the match with 12 in today s batting team including Cosgrove who batted at number four James Pearson Matt Pardoe and Matt Cross are on trial and Academy players George Corbett Joe Kendall Alex Kent Joe Clarke and David Sayer were also involved in the game Team 1 12 Robson Redfern Eckersley Cosgrove Pinner Raine Naik Kent Sheikh Wyatt Corbett Clarke Team 2 13 Boyce Pardoe Ali Hill Wells Taylor Cross Kendall Sykes Freckingham Shreck Pearson D Sayer Openers Robson and Dan Redfern put on 53 in good time before Redfern mistimed a pull off Freckingham and picked out Matthew Boyce at mid on after making 28 After Freckingham and Charlie Shreck had a rest Pearson and Rob Taylor came on first change Robson progressed to a bright 45 ball 50 including nine boundaries and an all run four but he edged his next delivery as Pearson got nice shape Lewis Hill completed the dismissal behind the stumps Cosgrove made his way to the middle with the score on 93 2 but there was rain in the air and he did not get to face a ball at that point But the shower passed and Cosgrove was able to take strike for a Pearson delivery The players were soon scampering for cover again though after the addition of a Ned Eckersley single Play got back underway after lunch and Cosgrove fell lbw to Taylor to the first ball after the interval as the left armer nipped one back sharply Taylor caused problems by
