field in the last few weeks One was with Peter Wilcox of Peter Wilcox Financial Management who is a sponsor of the Club I was standing in the field one day and looking around between overs and spotted Peter advertising board I got in touch with Commercial Director Jim Overend and he helped to organise a placement with Peter in Sutton Bonington I found Peter extremely useful and informative and I m now going to help to organise a client golf day for Peter in March which will be exciting Some of what I have been doing has built on past experience and other aspects are something that I ve been interested in for the last couple of years It s very interesting because everything in the world is relevant in an economic sense There s a bit of crossover from what I did at university but it is purely and simply about looking at what happens in the world and understanding how things work economically like how the oil prices and what is happening in Russia affects industry worldwide There is a lot of speculation involved but it was interesting to see how things work in a business sense because you have the analysts working out what is viable or not It is a world away from cricket but it is good to know that there are different opportunities out there and understanding how things work Boyce s work experience has also included linking up with a couple of people who have been closely connected with Leicestershire County Cricket Club in the recent past He said I also did a week in London with an old teammate Paul Dixey who works for Quilter Cheviot an Asset Management company I spent a week there learning the ropes They are a Fund Management company so deal with people s pensions and investments I was in a team of four and had to go into meetings and report back to the Fund Manager Paul is doing very well for himself He has almost finished his exams in Investment Management and is loving life in the city I know how difficult it can be for a cricketer whose career finishes prematurely Paul had two pretty bad injuries in his last year of professional cricket so unfortunately he couldn t continue but he has gone into something elsewhere and thrived immediately It is great that he has been able to do that I ve been speaking to Paul about it and also Greg Smith who did some work experience last winter with a company that deals with Bonds It is just something you have got to think about as a cricketer It s good to know there are things outside of cricket because there can be an injury or loss of form that stops you playing cricket It is good for your peace of mind Boyce was inspired to look at life outside of cricket after completing a charity walk from John O Groats
