    the club on its achievement and hopes the day goes well for Newtown Linford CC The club kindly hosted an Academy fixture for Leicestershire earlier this season and our players thoroughly enjoyed playing on the ground Here is an article on Newtown Linford written by Gareth A Davies for the Daily Telegraph website when the judges visited the ground Newtown Linford Cricket Club nestling at the foot of Bradgate Park in Leicestershire was formed in 1919 and is today a thriving hub of the local community Bradgate Park is steeped in history being the ancestral seat of the Grey family in the 15th century Indeed the family s most notable member Lady Jane Grey was born here and the current owner is a descendant of the Greys The club ground which is used by the 90 children from the village primary school has impressive facilities with covers new sightscreens and electronic scoreboard all the result of the hard work undertaken by the committee and in particular chairman Jon Dale The club has sponsorships and associations with 30 local businesses Its greatest success story may well be its teas It certainly stood out among the 130 entries in the Yorkshire Tea Great Cricket Tea Challenge that s why it made the shortlist of six for the 2015 title and must surely be among the most up market to be found anywhere in the country Local ingredients are the key The venison in their sausages is reared locally and almost all the produce in what was a magnificent spread came from local farms On the day of our visit the Newtown Linford 1st XI were playing Leicester Banks in the Leicestershire Rutland Cricket League Batting first the home side posted 271 in the 45 over match Dean Scaysbrook hit a powerful 93

    for Anthony Nolan during September one on each day of the month to pass on the vital and lifesaving message that it s easy to donate your stem cells A flag will be passed from host to host during the month before being taken to the Leicester Infirmary where patients with blood cancer are treated There will be plenty of surprises in store for the people of Leicester with each host planning their own creative and eye catching awareness drive in September Leicestershire County Cricket Club will host its event on Monday September 14 th where anyone aged 16 30 can join the register Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said We are extremely proud to be backing the Pass It On campaign alongside the other participants Rik is an inspirational man and we will do everything we can to support the Rik Basra Leukaemia Foundation and Anthony Nolan Trust September is an important month for the campaign so please support it and make sure you spread the word pass it on The Rik Basra Leukaemia Campaign hosted a Race to 1000 event last year and successfully recruited 1 000 young Leicester locals to the Anthony Nolan register Now with a little help from local businesses and celebrities they are hoping to build on this success Gary Lineker said Rik Basra and the charity Anthony Nolan are doing fantastic work to tackle blood cancer in Leicester and Leicestershire Now it s up to us to help raise awareness of the Anthony Nolan bone marrow register and how easy it is to join Together we can all be Leicester lifesavers by signing up and spreading the word so pass it on There are so many myths surrounding bone marrow or stem cell donation It isn t a painful or invasive procedure it s improved so much that now in the vast majority of cases it s just like giving blood but sadly awareness has lagged behind Trust me I ve had more painful tackles in my career Emile Heskey added Last year I was lucky enough to attend the donor drive with Rik in Leicester when over 1 000 local people signed up to the Anthony Nolan register in one day It was an amazing example of what can be achieved if we all come together and I felt so proud of our lifesaving city That s why I m so excited to hear about Rik s new Pass it On campaign which is even more ambitious than last year Every corner of the Leicestershire community has got behind it and I hope this inspires a new generation of lifesavers The month of September is particularly important for Rik and his family it was in September 2011 that Rik was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia for a second time After this diagnosis he was told he needed a bone marrow transplant to save his life The odds of finding a donor were stacked against Rik due to the

    London 50 Over One Day Cup during the summer holidays Under 16s are able to come to watch all of the group games at Grace Road for FREE when accompanied by an adult while adult tickets cost just 10 in advance Our first match against Surrey is a Community Day sponsored by the Meesha Group and it will be packed full of fun for all of the family The Red Monkey Play area will be in place throughout the afternoon and there will be inflatables and face painting as well as lots of food and drink options around the ground including a barbecue We will also have the Royal London 50 Over One Day trophy here throughout the afternoon so fans can have their photographs taken with the cup during the day Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said We held an Open Day to launch the start of the season and are now hosting our Community Day to celebrate the start of the Royal London 50 Over One Day Cup campaign We want to show the whole community what we have to offer and have decided to reduce prices for the tournament to make cricket affordable for families over the summer holidays The ICC World Cup was a fantastic global event and 50 over cricket again captured the imagination during the series between England and New Zealand last month As well as what promises to be an entertaining game of cricket between two exciting sides there will be lots going on around the ground We are expecting a big crowd against Surrey so please make sure you book your tickets in advance Leicestershire CCC is also offering children the chance to play cricket throughout the summer holidays with our Coaching Clinics and Foxes 8s Tournament All
