nettle starting with tomorrow night s clash at home to the Lightning 5 30pm start Eckersley said We have to aim to win all three games and definitely make sure of our position in the top four The crowds have been great at Grace Road this season big and noisy and the players have thrived on the atmosphere and played really well We ve got two home games left and we ve played really well here and just had one blip against Birmingham We looked in control of the game but they are a good team who fought back well If we play like that again at home I m very confident we can get two victories here and a win at Northants would really top it off McDonald added It s a tough one to call but history suggests that if you win 50 per cent of the games then you get through and I still think that will be the case So two out of three may be enough but three out of three will definitely get us in and that s what we re looking for The Head Coach said the team was frustrated to suffer back to back setbacks last week but insists everybody will take belief into Friday night s game against Lancashire It was a disappointing loss against Birmingham as we had that game pretty much sewn up and in our control and we ll look back to that first game at Lancashire as one we could have won said McDonald But we re playing good cricket in the T20 format and we should take full confidence that we can win our last three games If we can do that we ll have great momentum going into the quarter finals We re quietly confident

middle scoring his first runs in the first class arena a few hours later It was great to sign my first professional contract but this is the best feeling ever said Ali To be handed the Leicestershire baggy green by Jonathan Agnew was a special moment It s all been a dream come true I can remember going to my sessions at under 10 and under 11 level and staying to watch the first team play and thinking I hope I m there one day Making my debut is a moment I won t ever forget The lads settled any nerves I had quickly because we have a lot of good senior players who put their arm around you and look after you I m happy to be here and hopefully I ll keep getting the opportunities and I can take them Ali has been soaking up as much advice as he can since being part of the first team environment and he showed good application with the willow in testing circumstances His introduction to the first class arena was to face Kent s threatening seam attack of Matt Coles Darren Stevens Calum Haggett and Adam Bal and he scored 21 in facing 93 delivieries in the game He said Coming back to Leicestershire after having a spell playing abroad this winter was great Being around the lads helped me to feel welcome and get a good feel about the place There were a lot of changes over the winter and it was all new to me but it s been great Ned Eckersley and Robbo Angus Robson have been in good form all season and again played well on the first morning but wickets tended to fall in clusters in this game so you always have to be ready

the epic Royal London ODI series The Foxes have Elliott and Kevin O Brien back from international duty and their experience will again be invaluable as the competition reaches a critical stage Elliott well known for having a cool head said the best approach for the Foxes is to look no further ahead than the first ball of tomorrow s match He said It was nice to play for New Zealand in what was a fantastic series against England where lots of runs were scored including some fine innings by Kane Williamson and Joe Root in front of some big crowds I m now back with the Foxes and we face a big game against a strong Yorkshire team who have a couple of very good overseas players in Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell I faced Adil Rashid a bit during the one dayers and he is a good bowler who has got some tricks We have this game and then two weekends where we play twice so it s an important phase of the competition but we have given ourselves a good chance of making the knockout stages By getting wins on the board we are not under too much pressure and can keep going out with the aim of enjoying our cricket We have to take it game by game one ball at a time We have a team where different people contribute we have players who can do a bit of everything and there is good depth The Foxes have named a 15 man squad for the game and there will be two enforced changes from the stunning win at Birmingham Bears last Friday as Umar Akmal s spell as overseas player has ended and James Sykes is injured Elliott and Kevin O Brien return and off

19th June 2015 McDonald praises Akmal s contribution REACTION By Brian Halford Leicestershire Foxes Head Coach Andrew McDonald was a happy man as his side recorded a priceless NatWest T20 Blast away win at Birmingham Bears this evening The North section has seen plenty of home victories so far and while the Foxes remain unbeaten at Grace Road they now have two wins on their travels at Trent Bridge and Edgbaston McDonald was pleased with the all round performance and paid tribute to Umar Akmal who hit his second unbeaten half century in three innings on his farewell appearance for the club Any win on the road is a good win and our guys played some really good cricket said McDonald We thought it was probably a 170 odd pitch so to keep them to 160 was a good effort and then we went about chasing the target in a very positive way Mark Cosgrove gave us the perfect start and then Niall O Brien and Umar Akmal played it perfectly It was nice for Umar to finish his time with us with a half century We are looking forward to having Grant Elliott back but we have been very lucky to have Umar while Grant has been away He has done really well for us and I would like to thank him for that Birmingham Bears Director of Cricket Dougie Brown gave credit to the Foxes as his side lost for only the second time in the competition this season He said Leicestershire thoroughly deserved their win They outskilled us in all departments They played a really good game for 40 overs and we didn t They bowled well and we didn t react to that and you have to react to things quickly in Twenty20 Then they were

home at Trent Bridge Although he was thwarted by the weather when the home game against Northamptonshire Steelbacks had to be abandoned last week Leicestershire Head Coach Andrew McDonald is looking forward to seeing the 25 year old in action at Derbyshire Falcons 7pm tomorrow and Birmingham Bears 6 30pm on Friday McDonald said the exciting young batsman had been a positive influence on his squad during his stay at Grace Road during which he has also made his LV CC and List A debuts It was good to have Umar available for the four day match at he really cherished it and it meant we were able to give Clint a much needed rest but now we re looking forward to him lighting up the T20s against the Falcons and Bears said McDonald With three wins two defeats and one abandoned we re on the right side of the ledger and these are two important games for us McDonald acknowledged he had been disappointed with performance at Emirates Old Trafford where the team suffered an innings defeat He said The players are good enough we have the skills in the dressing room but in Championship cricket it s all about applying your effort to the team over long periods of time We had a good de brief after the game an open and honest chat and now we have to move forward quickly Every time you get the chance to represent a great club like Leicestershire you have to seize the opportunity and that s what I demand of the guys We need to get back to the actions and behaviours we had earlier in the season and get back on track The Foxes will be without Kevin O Brien away on international duty captaining Ireland in their three

Head Coach Andrew McDonald was delighted with the calmness shown by his side during the excellent NatWest T20 Blast victory at Nottinghamshire Outlaws last night England opener Alex Hales got the Outlaws off to a good start but McDonald was pleased with the way the bowlers stuck to their task in front of a big crowd at Trent Bridge Clint McKay excelled with a career best 4 24 while Ben Raine 4 0 27 0 also bowled well at both ends of the innings after Jigar Naik 4 0 23 1 had applied the brakes in the middle period Atif Sheikh 4 0 30 1 had bowled a hostile spell up front to set the tone and all in all it was a fine effort against a batting line up full of international players McDonald then praised Umar Akmal who hit a stunning 49 ball 76 not out and Matthew Boyce 21 not out for the way they applied themselves during the matchwinning unbroken partnership of 99 We pulled it back nicely said McDonald At one stage it looked as if Notts score might have got a bit out of hand and they might have got up to 160 or 170 That would have been a difficult chase but we were able to keep them below 150 which was our plan We read the wicket quite well and we didn t panic in the run chase It could have easy to sit down and say we re four down early but we had some specific plans for the middle there and Boycey Matthew Boyce who scored 21 not out played a pivotal role in that Umar was sensational some of those sixes were so cleanly hit we know he can do that because he s an international player but Boycey

Nottinghamshire Outlaws on Friday County beat Essex by six wickets on Wednesday and with two victories in the T20 already under their belt the win at Chelmsford confirmed McDonald s side to be very much on the up Every game of cricket we play to win and we want to continue to build something said McDonald Winning at Essex will help in that it confirms to the players that the game plan they re being given works and if they continue to get better and better at doing that they ll win more games It s a pretty simple mindset It s been a fresh start a new era and internally we know where we re going and where we re heading Making his debut for the Foxes will be Pakistan international batsman Umar Akmal who replaces New Zealand star Grant Elliott now part of the Kiwis one day squad for the upcoming series against England Also missing will be the O Brien brothers Kevin and Niall on international duty with Ireland The highly talented Akmal 24 has a best T20 score of 94 for his country and a terrific overall strike rate of 128 65 in his T20 career Foxes captain Mark Cosgrove said It s fantastic to have Umar with us while Grant is with New Zealand Along with Clint McKay it means we have high class overseas players to supplement the young talent already here Tomorrow evening could be called Reunion night as Charlie Shreck returns to his former club while Harry Gurney is one of four former Leicestershire players who could face his old teammates James Taylor and Greg Smith are also at Nottinghamshire while Stuart Broad has been given permission to play by the ECB Broad s last appearance for the Outlaws in T20 was
