tell the grandchildren one day but for now Elliott said New Zealand must remain focused and stick to the preparation that has served them so well so far He said I don t like to get too high or low I prefer to reflect later but it is a great moment to share with family and the team The support has been absolutely amazing and the win was definitely for our fans It was an incredible feeling winning the game with 40 000 supporters cheering us on at Eden Park It s a moment I ll never forget South Africa bowled well and are a world class side but we played well and rode our luck a little bit It was our day The feeling in the team is that it was destined that is how I felt It feels like it was meant to be The best team on the day will win the final We have nothing to lose Someone has to step up We ll just approach it like any other game because that has worked for us so far There were a lot of congratulatory messages for Elliott from Leicestershire fans via email and social media as they watched the drama unfold on television Good luck messages have already been coming in ahead of the Final and Elliott said the team is thankful for the support they have received from all quarters The Black Caps head to England this summer and play a one day tour game at Grace Road as part of their preparations for the ODI series so there is a great opportunity for Leicestershire supporters to see New Zealand in action He said I d like to thank the Leicestershire fans for taking the time to wish us well and I am looking

enough runs on the board Had we done things slightly better that day anything could have happened Then came a low point finding out I wasn t playing the second game against England at Christchurch England had just been beaten convincingly by McCullum and his Blackcaps and all the talk was about whether we d be the first group of Scottish players to beat England in an ODI We thought we had a great chance But again despite doing well in patches we couldn t chase down their total having restricted them to 303 Heading into our third game there was genuine optimism at beating Afghanistan this game was pin pointed as the game Scotland would win to secure our first ever World Cup win Again we didn t get enough runs and although we had them nine wickets down in the end Shenwari and Shapoor Zadran would go on to have the last laugh It was an agonising one wicket defeat It was he closest we had come to winning a game Would we get another chance to come that close Realistically Bangladesh were our next best chance to claim a win A first World Cup century for Scotland thanks to Kyle Coetzer the highlight of the World Cup for us was a moment when we showed we could perform at the top level It was an innings of perfect timing holding our batting together and with over 300 on the board it was half a job well done Sadly it would remain half a job well done and Bangladesh never really fell below the required rate chasing our total down In the camp the disappointment was palpable We could no longer qualify for the second half of the tournament and we hadn t put a complete performance together once But the learning we were taking from each game was invaluable As a bowler watching from the sidelines is one of the worst places to be You desperately want to be out there with your teammates and when things aren t going well you want to be able to ask the captain to throw you the ball But you can t You feel like you re just a spectator Having worked hard in the nets while not playing it was great to get back in the side for the game against Sri Lanka and although they amassed 363 to only concede 48 runs off my ten overs felt like a point proven I d felt who knows what could have happened had I been there to tell the captain to give me the ball in those close games The pleasing thing for me in that game wasn t the runs scored off my bowling but more the areas I bowled I had the best seat in the house to watch Sangakkara bat while in the best form of his life Yes I didn t get him out but he didn t ever get on top of me either and

with a thank you to supporters I write this article sitting on the plane on the way home from Adelaide There is a little sadness that I won t be playing against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night but in general a real feeling of joy at what our team has gone out and achieved The Australian and New Zealand public could not have been more hospitable and friendly as we travelled from city to city and stadium to stadium We won so many fans over with our spirited display on the pitch and friendly atmosphere away from it Three wins and three losses is a good return yes but we were hopeful of four and a quarter final berth but it wasn t to be Losing to Pakistan South Africa and India is no disgrace and the fact we know we could have run them closer is testament to where we have come from as a team over the years Three wonderful wins over the West Indies UAE and Zimbabwe gave our supporters lots to shout about and I am extremely grateful to all who got behind our team in our journey down under The camaraderie that is within our team is unreal not once was there an argument in camp and on a eight week tour that is nearly unheard of I must say a huge thank you to all the management for their support on tour So next up is my third year with the Foxes and one I am extremely excited about I want this team and club to be successful and I know there is a huge shift in attitude and focus as the team get things moving for the season The club will have a solid base of players to choose from

a development stage as it s something I have only taken up fairly recently but I am learning a lot every day I have had some sessions with Keith Piper and I ve learnt a lot off him already I ll have one of those sessions a week going into the season and they give me great insight into the technical side of keeping It is great to learn the methods and techniques from Keith Everything that Keith says makes sense With keeping being relatively new to me I am keen to make sure I am using the right methods and techniques Keith has assured me that I am and given me a few tips to improve my practice I can refer to his instruction and self learn a lot more He is a very good coach I will also keep learning off Niall when he is back from the World Cup and also from Ned Eckersley and if they are ever injured or if Niall is away with Ireland hopefully I ll get the chance to step up into the first team Hill is now looking to take everything that he has learnt and put into practice as pre season preparations step up a gear The 24 year old enjoys using the practice facilities at Grace Road and thinks that the winter programme has been a challenging one The new surfaces in the Mike Turner Indoor Cricket Centre make for better quality practice We have fantastic training facilities here both indoors and outdoors he said The new season has come around very quickly and we are due all being well to train outside on Monday March 16 Our winter has seen us have two weeks of full on practice and then a week having a bit of downtime and

was always going to be out of reach against an attack containing Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel to name but two Steyn s pace was unreal as he generated pace off the flat pitch under the lights I was dismissed in unusual fashion after I slashed at a ball and when the keeper parried it I thought I had been given a life only to find Hashim Amla catch it in his armpit I felt excellent at the crease so was gutted to get out in that fashion Amla was wonderful with the bat in scoring 150 and was given a life when in his 20s which proved costly Zimbabwe has a talented side but we will back ourselves to outplay them over the hundred overs at Bellerive Oval on Saturday It s my first time in Hobart and it s a lovely little city The weather is certainly not as warm as other parts of Australia and we will be needing our jumpers come the evening session Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams have been excellent with the bat for Zimbabwe and will be crucial wickets for our bowlers to take Their bowling record is interesting over the last two years They have the best record regarding run rate in the first 10 overs of ODIs but they have the worst for the last 10 so it s crucial we don t give them wickets up front We need a platform for an assault in the last 20 overs Back with Leicestershire it is great news that we have acquired Grant Elliott for the NatWest T20 Blast I know that he will add value with both bat and ball and give valuable support and experience to our squad I must thank all of the Leicestershire supporters for their messages of

of fight in the first game to recover from 12 4 to reach 143 and then to get New Zealand seven down in their run chase We had a few days up in Christchurch ahead of our second game against England With everything that has gone on in the past year between Scotland and England it would have been the perfect time to beat them they had previously endured a tough game against New Zealand too so we were hoping to continue those tough times for them We were playing at Hagley Oval a ground that we have fond memories off having qualified for the World Cup there and although it had changed a bit since then it was still a great feeling to be back Moeen Ali and Ian Bell compiled a large opening partnership and England looked to be heading for 350 Again we showed great character and kept them to 303 Costa Kyle Coetzer made a well compiled 71 but that was the only real contribution in the run chase and we were bowled out for 184 When we returned back to Dunedin a few of us got a run around on the Highlanders Super Rugby ground a 25 000 seater indoor stadium Having seen some of their kicking and back line moves I m not sure any of us will be getting signed up any time soon Nor would any of us fancy squaring up to Nasi Manu at 1 90m and 112 kilograms Having played two full member nations we then had to chance to play against the other Associate in our group Afghanistan Last time we met we bowled them out for 63 in Dubai so we were hoping for a solid all round performance What we got was an absolute cliff hanger Neither
