  • Thank you Chris Evans...
    will do better at school So I was delighted to come across an article in the paper this weekend written by Radio 2 s Chris Evans who argues that sharing the magic of books is as enriching for parents as it is for children In the article Chris says I didn t read as a kid as I was never taught about the wonder of books Although I ve always thought he had a great way with words he obviously feels that he missed out and came too late to the words party Thankfully Chris s wife made him start reading to his eldest son Noah when he was very young and although he didn t really see the point he agreed because I d get a few days of the silent treatment if I didn t They soon got in to a routine and as the pile of books has grown Chris has seen Noah s love of books blossom along with his concentration vocabulary imagination and now he has started reading some of their favourite books back to his Dad Chris concludes the article with a plea Please parents read to your children Ideally at night just before they drift off into the glorious deep sleep of the innocent If nothing else you should do it because eventually they will read to you not only because they re told to or it s their reading book from school but because they want to And you will not believe how extraordinarily beautiful and life affirming that feels So thank you Chris for helping spread the word about the magic of reading Establishing a bedtime reading routine is one of the best things you can do for your child it s 10 times more difficult to teach a child who
