  • It's about love, Stupid - Maximillion
    people who are already convinced of the need to address climate change because it reinforces their existing beliefs But people who don t already get it just come away depressed and demotivated If fear doesn t work how about love This is the approach taken with Home a film by Yann Arthus Bertrand best known for his photographs of the Earth from above I can t help seeing Home as a tragic love story of how in dominating our beloved beautiful Earth we are destroying everything that makes her special and how only now are we realising that we depend on her absolutely The film is deceptively simple with just three elements awe inspiring film footage of the world taken from helicopter and hot air balloon the narrator s voice telling a simple factual story of the Earth since the birth of live and beautiful haunting music The story is simple too The world is beautiful and wonder full Humans and all forms of life are intimately interconnected and dependent on each other Our ways of life are destroying this world our home of which we are a part and on which we depend Now it s time to be inspired by the many examples of ecological and social renewal Be the change you want to see in the world Gandhi What I find really interesting about Home is how the film embodies Gandhi s precept in the way it communicates If you want people to treat the Earth with respect treat them with respect don t tell them they re stupid If you want people to be hopeful give them hope not fear Home doesn t blame anyone for the mess we ve collectively got ourselves into The changes we ve inflicted on the Earth were largely done with

  • Let's get lost - getting to real customer engagement - Maximillion
    where I always turn right down a stony path I decided this time to go left over a small bridge and down a steep gully All good fun but after half an hour it was clear I wasn t sure where I was in relation to the trail I had turned off or to my intended destination Out came the map compass and guide book and soon I realised that if I continued along this path it would be longer probably much slower but it would open up a whole set of route options and views that would not be available to me going the other direction Thinking about my detour it occurred to me that to assist clients in finding those killer questions and making sense of them they needed different tools than those used for generating ideas solutions or options Getting clients to work with the equivalent of maps would be fun engaging and effective at helping arrive at the most important questions that needed answered Never one to miss an opportunity I asked a new client if they were comfortable mapping out their current situation How do we get real customer engagement using methods such as large format story boards 15m long and 3m high modelling using physical objects and some other mapping tools The end results were frankly startling Several workshop groups had completely different views of how the organisation s current services worked two groups identified that they knew what was needed to solve immediate customer issues but had no idea how to engage customers thereafter A final group identified that as an organisation there was no clear idea about common long term goals at senior management and board level Rather than moving straight on to developing options or solutions we started to list some

    pocket Both happened this week and only one was an official event marketing drive That is the latter a move by broadband provider TalkTalk to employ reformed pick pockets as put pockets dropping 20 unnoticed into shoppers bags and pockets presumably with the requisite branding attached Nice idea although I m not sure about reformed convicts or anyone else for that matter creeping up on me but I prefer the first example This saw Tour De France star Lance Armstrong use Twitter to send an open invite to cyclists in Paisley Scotland to join him for a wee cycle around town he was staying there to see U2 at Glasgow venue Hampden Park apparently His Tweet said Hey Glasgow Scotland I m coming your way tomorrow Who wants to go for a bike ride His geography was slightly out Armstrong was staying at Ashtree House Hotel Paisley from where he set off that lunchtime When Lance Armstrong did something similar in Australia he got 12 people This week in the pouring rain he got more like 200 The feelgood factor created and free PR were immeasurable The Twitter invite included a personal call to former champion cyclist and local Scot Graeme Obree who ended up all over the BBC with huge enthusiasm How s that for a team building event Brilliant Sure there was no insurance God knows who might have been legally liable if anyone came a cropper but the police got wind at 8 30am and ensured all went off safely Low cost high impact live marketing at its best How do corporate and agency event planners transfer that into their live events Well that s down to you but the fundamentals are clear to us at ReviewEvents the Lance Armstrong show was free attainable money can t
