  • Design Trust Challenge | Milomade
Gift Vintage Website Wholesale Windchime Winter Warmth 2015 Work In Progress Design Trust Challenge 15th September 2014 A week or so ago I signed up for a challenge set up by The Design Trust called Get your online shop ready for Christmas It all started with a webinar which was amazingly informative and this led to people like me posting up 5 tasks to complete before the end of September It s all about accountability and getting things done If you tell the world you re going to do X Y and Z you re more likely to get on with the tasks and complete them than if you just write yourself a list and promise yourself you ll get on with them soon I ve just re launched my new improved website and so I thought this would be a great challenge to get involved in as we re coming up to the busiest shopping time of the year I ve got until the end of September to complete my 5 tasks and I m hoping I can do this Here s what I ve decided to try and accomplish So here is a list of the 5 tasks I ve decided to tackle for this challenge Make some christmas specific gift guides I already have a gift guides section on my site that needs a little refining after the webinar Need to create one full of items for perfect stocking fillers and also one for themed bundles of specific related products that could be bundled together with a deducted from the total looking for ideas for a catchy name Add gift vouchers to the shop 20 50 75 100 I will need to create a physical voucher that can be sent out to customers need to photograph these to add them to the shop Add a new category within Gift Guides for Gift Vouchers or insert them as products at the top of each gift guide product page for people who can t decide Give the homepage carousel a christmassy feel Use snowflakes or other graphics as overlays and add new slides to link directly to new gift guides and gift vouchers remembering to keep exisitng slides so that I can switch everything back after Christmas Re do shipping costs and add postal dates At the moment my shipping is calculated based on weight and this has proven difficult as I sell such a large range of products some requiruing next day delivery with compensation etc jewellery and others that would be more appealing to buy if my base shipping rate wasn t as high as 4 95 a pack of badges for instance so thinking of changing shipping to be based on order total rather than weight But I need to see if this is feasible with regards to international orders If I do shipping according to order total I can then offer free shipping to orders over 100 I also need to make it very clear

  • A visit to Ripon | Milomade
to Ripon 27th April 2014 As you may know I went to the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate a few weeks ago as a visitor I requested an invite from the organisers as I m intending on taking a stand at next years show in April 2015 and as I ve never even been to a trade show before I really wanted to have a look around and find out more about what is involved I took Colin Milo and the dog with me and we stayed in Ripon It was an amazing weekend away as not only did I visit the BCTF for a whole day I also got to visit Ripon which was a lovely blast from the past as when I was 19 years old I left home and went to college there to study teaching I hated it and quickly switched to study art and never looked back We stayed at a pub round the corner from my old college which sadly has been left abandoned for years now well the art block has the main college buildings have all been turned into flats I went on a little down memory lane walk with the dog one evening and it was lovely to visit my old haunts College Road Madonna and Child I used to pass this on a daily basis and photographed it over and over again The Ripon Campus This was the art department entrance with the porters lodge in the foreground and the art block in the distance The Art Block Main Entrance I wish I still had photos of me and my colleagues sitting on the steps here The Art Block The Side Entrance to the Art Block This was just next to my studio and the entrance I used everyday Looking a little neglected and overgrown with plants now what a shame My Sculpture Studio Behind the trees are the windows to my sculpture studio As the only sculpture student I had the studio to myself There was a massive long belfast type sink by these windows The studio was hit with the most amazing evening light and the window frames used to cast lovely shadows on the studio floor I loved that room The College Emblem Private Residents Only Oh how things have changed The Old College Buildings All converted into flats now I bumped into a woman who lived there and said when she first moved in she lived in what used to be the college library and the flat was amazing She now lives in one of the new build flats round the back of this building Seems so odd I wish I could ve gone inside and had a good look around Park Road I used to live in a flat at the back of this building apparently haunted it was a very strange place to live but I shared the space with a very unusual bunch of people and it was a very unusual time
