pliers Pair of flush cut pliers A file A hammer A marker pen A metal steak to hammer against not pictured Step One Using your flush cut pliers snip the end of the wire that s on the roll so that you have a flat end Place your wire against your metal ruler and measure and mark 7cm Then using the flush cut pliers snip the wire at the 7cm mark You need to cut two 7cm lengths to make a pair of earwires so use your flush cut pliers to snip the end of a wire on your roll and then measure mark and cut at 7cm again Alternatively you can line up the ends of your first piece of cut wire and the wire on the roll and use your existing 7cm length as a guide to cut your second piece of wire Depending on the type of wire you re using you may feel it necessary to anneal your pieces of wire at this stage I ve not done this as I buy my silver wire soft and fully annealed Step Three Next measure and mark at 2cm from one end of each of the wire lengths you have Step Four Take your round nose pliers and bend the wire around the tips so you have a 90 bend Step Five Next curl the shorter end around the tip of the pliers until it meets the bend you ve just created Step Six Next shift your pliers tips so that you have one inside the loop at the top and the other below the loop so that you can bend the wire in the opposite direction and create a loop hard to describe but if you examine the photo below you ll see what I mean So there you have it this is the loop your earring will hang from Step Seven Place your loop on a metal steak and strike it with a hammer not very hard just enough to flatten the metal a little this will help to keep the shape of the earwire Then using your round nose pliers pinch the loop closed a little You should now have something like this in your hands Step Eight Take you round nose pliers and whilst holding the loop in your hands with the long piece of wire pointing to the left take the tip of the short piece and curl it away from you to create the little hook as demonstrated in the photo below As you did with the loop bang this a little with the hammer as well Step Nine Next text your marker pen or you could use a large knitting needle and place it in the middle of the long bit of wire Bend the wire around the pen until you reach the little hook you just created Step Ten Place the earwire on your metal steak again and hammer the large curve you ve just created You also want to
