  • Landlords must review insurance cover |
is going to result in a 100 000 shortfall because the landlord had under insured the property for many years The fire broke out in a block of flats after a tenant started cleaning car parts with petrol in the kitchen According to the insurer This is a particularly extreme and unusual case but it does highlight the importance of ensuring that your insurance policy is sufficient to cover the full value of rebuilding the property In the current financial climate it is more crucial to look at the levels of cover rather than the bottom line premium Morgan Clark has helped many landlords when they have had to make an insurance claim You can read more about their experiences by visiting our Landlords Insurance Claims page Share this page This entry was posted in Business Insurance News News and tagged landlords Back to the blog archive Request a call back Please leave this field empty Categories Burst Pipe Articles 7 Business Insurance News 77 Escape Of Water Articles 1 Fire Articles 37 Flood Articles 42 Freezing Weather Articles 7 Home Insurance Articles 1 Home Insurance News 99 Insurance Articles 34 Landlords Articles 10 Loss Assessors 12 News 113 Other

  • Are gadgets covered at university? |
parents insurance policies Research by student insurance provider Endsleigh has revealed that students are up to 60 per cent more likely to make a claim than any other individual and they take up to 2 000 worth of gadgets with them to university More often than not parents policies do not insure students for loss or damage on the move and items stolen from halls of residence or shared houses are not covered unless there is a lock on the bedroom door and there is evidence of forced entry According to an article in the Daily Telegraph students carry on average 337 worth of gadgets around on a daily basis The excess on a parent s home policy to cover items such as an iPad will be around 125 but policies specifically tailored towards students usually have lower excesses In addition many home contents insurance policies only provide cover for one permanent address which could make a student s claim at their university address null and void The advice is two fold firstly students should take precautions against theft and damage and secondly they must ensure they have adequate cover either through their parents or their own insurance Share this page This entry was posted in Home Insurance News News and tagged contents insurance household insurance Back to the blog archive Request a call back Please leave this field empty Categories Burst Pipe Articles 7 Business Insurance News 77 Escape Of Water Articles 1 Fire Articles 37 Flood Articles 42 Freezing Weather Articles 7 Home Insurance Articles 1 Home Insurance News 99 Insurance Articles 34 Landlords Articles 10 Loss Assessors 12 News 113 Other Residential Articles 3 Theft Articles 9 Archive April 2016 March 2016 February 2016 January 2016 Morgan Clark Fire and Flood Insurance Claims Management Residential Commercial Fire

  • Riot claims law needs changing |
is needed according to one insurance industry body The Riot Damages Act which dates from 1886 allows uninsured businesses and households affected by riots as well as insurers to seek partial compensation from the police The Act only covers property damage and insurers are still responsible for other claims such as business interruption costs The police however have turned town over half of all claims submitted following the 2011 riots whereas insurers have settled more than 90 per cent of relevant claims The Association of British Insurers ABI is now calling for a new definition of a riot to be inserted into the legislation which is currently defined as more than 12 people riotously and tumultuously assembled The ABI is also asking for a streamlining and standardising of the claims process for local police authorities and for the time period for notification of claims to be extended from 14 to 90 days The ABI stated The Riot Damages Act is crucial in providing financial compensation to victims of riots who do not have property insurance or are underinsured but the current lack of a standard approach has caused unacceptable delays and confusion Share this page This entry was posted in Business Insurance News News and tagged business insurance business interruption Insurance law SMEs Back to the blog archive Request a call back Please leave this field empty Categories Burst Pipe Articles 7 Business Insurance News 77 Escape Of Water Articles 1 Fire Articles 37 Flood Articles 42 Freezing Weather Articles 7 Home Insurance Articles 1 Home Insurance News 99 Insurance Articles 34 Landlords Articles 10 Loss Assessors 12 News 113 Other Residential Articles 3 Theft Articles 9 Archive April 2016 March 2016 February 2016 January 2016 Morgan Clark Fire and Flood Insurance Claims Management Residential Commercial Fire insurance claims Flood

  • News | Morgan Clark
with battery powered candles these are cheap they do not blow out and they are much safer Teach your child to STOP DROP AND ROLL in the event that their clothing does catch fire In an emergency cool any burns with large amounts of water and get urgent medical assistance Another bit of advice we ve seen is to ensure children wear ordinary clothes under their fancy dress which puts a barrier between the fancy dress and the skin So we hope your family has a great and safe Halloween Animal dangers Post by Morgan Clark October 16 2015 I don t have any pets and according to a recent news article it might be just as well One major insurer has reported that they can lead to some rather weird and wonderful insurance claims RIAS has looked at its claims from last year and some of the more unusual ones involved animals These resulted in thousands of pounds worth of payouts and included An over enthusiastic dog in Slough who fancied a swim and decided to dive in to some lovely crystal clear ocean water Unfortunately the water was on a TV screen in the living room and this misjudged leap caused hundreds of pounds of damage Door bells can send some dogs wild including one from Carlisle who jumped up in excitement when the chimes went and leapt on to his owner s lap where there was a computer and the owner was in the middle of drinking a cup of tea A Belfast man annoyed his pet bearded dragon by cleaning his tank which resulted in a nasty bite He jumped backwards in pain into his TV set causing nearly 400 of damage But it s not just pet animals wild ones can be just as much trouble A Rochester man was cleaning his teeth when a wasp flew in through window He panicked and tried to shoo it away knocking over a glass which cracked the basin and led to a 1000 insurance claim A pigeon flew into a bathroom in Northampton catapulting a vase from the windowsill into the loo and cracking the bowl Two magpies were fighting in Kilmarnock and crashed through a conservatory roof causing significant damage and a very large payout And finally the sad tale of someone who literally cooked his goose An Enfield man attempted to barbecue an entire goose and we know how fatty they can be Rather than a crisp and delicious lunch the goose caught fire and melted the entire barbecue causing 1300 worth of damage I ll stick to sausages and ribs Landlords must review insurance cover Post by Tony Clark October 2 2012 A recent case has illustrated the need for landlords to ensure their insurance cover is kept up to date If not they could be left out of pocket in the event of a claim Continue reading Are gadgets covered at university Post by Tony Clark September 25 2012 With the new university

  • The big winter getaway |
publish all sorts of personal information But beware it s been known that burglaries have happened as a direct result of finding out about holiday plans on these sites And there have also been reports of insurers refusing to pay out if they think an online post has triggered the theft So don t do it and make sure your children don t either Keep the temperature up Cold snaps can happen very quickly and pipes can freeze So if you re only going away for a short time it makes sense to leave some heating on very low or on a timer to come on for short periods If you re going away for longer then enlist the help of neighbours to put the heating on if necessary And ask them to check your house for frozen pipes if it does get very cold Check your pipes before you go In particular make sure they are properly lagged This is especially important in the loft or in vulnerable areas such as near external walls Check you re covered If you re going away for an extended winter break then you should make sure your household insurance is valid Some policies only offer existing cover on properties which are unoccupied for a maximum of 30 days others limit it to 60 Remember the normal precautions Don t forget to stop the papers and the milk And ask a neighbour not just to keep an eye on your post but also to stop free papers from sticking out of your letterbox an obvious sign to potential burglars that there s no one in Whatever you re doing enjoy the Christmas and New Year break Share this page This entry was posted in Burst Pipe Articles Fire Articles Flood Articles and tagged

  • Some New Year’s resolutions |
This could be a false economy Check the small print look at the excess you would have to pay compare this fantastic new deal with your existing policy are you fully covered Collect together all your vital documents which you would need if something happened and put them in a fireproof and waterproof box You ll need them straight away if disaster strikes What s your security like Do you have locks on all your windows and substantial locks on all your doors Have they worked loose You may never have been burgled to date but it could still happen so make it difficult for anyone to break in We deal with so many claims for fires caused by kitchen appliances So stop using the dishwasher washing machine or tumble drier while you re asleep Set a regular time for testing you smoke alarm If you haven t got one then install one We re only half way through winter and there is still plenty of bad weather to come So don t delay those long delayed repairs to your fences again and clear out your gutters this could reap huge rewards if a storm hits Make backing up your computer files a regular thing this year decide to do it once a week or once a month but keep to it You d regret it if your computer was stolen or if it crashed and the data and photos on it were unrecoverable Check your pipes and replace any lagging that s got worn or loose It s never too late so make this a regular January action And finally call the chimney sweep Chimney fires can be catastrophic it s another common cause of the fire claims we have to deal with All of us at Morgan Clark
