    family company with close to fifty years of marine experience In Cumbria we operate locally throughout the Lake District the Solway and Irish Sea coastlines and also further afield to cover the whole of the North of England and South West Scotland Established over twenty years ago the Company initially provided services covering a range of vessels from yachts and small craft to large container vessels and supertankers However with ever increasing legislation throughout the marine industry it has became impractical and near impossible to offer expert services for all types and classes of vessels Recently the company restructured to concentrate solely on the yacht and small craft market providing a comprehensive experienced and very professional service to both the private and commercial sectors alike The founder of the company sails a Sigma 36 out of Whitehaven and is currently restoring a famous half ton yacht dating from 1974 In addition to over forty years yacht and small craft experience he also has a Merchant Navy background having risen to the rank of Master in general cargo and container ships He currently enjoys membership of both the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and the Yacht Designers Surveyors Association YDSA Nicholas

    The Yacht Designers Surveyors Association YDSA Pre purchase full condition Surveys To ensure that the vessel is structurally sound in every respect that the machinery spars and rigging electrical and service systems instrumentation and safety equipment are all in a satisfactory condition and that the vessel is in acceptable cosmetic order If the vessel is afloat a lift out will be required normally at purchaser s expense to examine the underwater sections stern gear hull keel joint etc Insurance Surveys Required to satisfy the Insurance Company that a the vessel is an acceptable risk and b that the insured value is realistic These surveys may well be conducted with the vessel afloat the insurers will however periodically require the vessel to be lifted clear of the water for examination of the underwater shell and the stern gear We will provide upon request an e mail detailing the minimum requirements set by insurance companies that will assist in preparing your vessel for such a survey Damage and valuation surveys For owners finance houses marine loss adjusters and insurance companies Part 1 British Ship Registry This has nothing to do with and is far removed from the Small Ships Register or SSR

    Merchant Shipping Regulations or the Maritime Coastguard Agency MCA Code of Practice The MCA Small Commercial Vessel Code of Practice applies to all boats under 24 metres in length that are in commercial use carrying cargo and or up to 12 passengers On behalf of the MCA we are authorised to carry out the required surveys and stability assessments under the relevant code of practice The procedure is relatively straightforward and the certification documentation should be with you a short time after a satisfactory survey report Should you wish to discuss coding your vessel prior to commitment then please do not hesitate to contact us either by telephone or by e mail and we will do our best to assist If your vessel is already coded with the YDSA we can also carry out the annual mid term and renewal inspections as and when required If your vessel is coded by a party other than the YDSA we will be unable to attend however it is a very simple matter to transfer to the YDSA and in most cases financially beneficial Damage and valuation surveys For owners finance houses marine loss adjusters and insurance companies International Marine Constructor s Association

    same time friendly informal and are structured to run over several consecutive days or over a couple of weekends plus one day etc it is entirely up to you flexibility is one of our main priorities In addition to being tailored to meet your specific needs we also offer instruction on a one to one basis through to groups of up to six persons maximum All our courses are taught on an on demand basis rather than by a scheduled programme of classes Essential Navigation and Seamanship A basic introductory 16 hour course for which there is no suggested minimum pre course experience required The course assumes no previous knowledge and aims to give each student a basic knowledge of navigation and safety Courses for a single person or a couple are normally held in Whitehaven but for larger groups we can offer a choice of venues The course cost will include provision of the RYA course pack each student is however expected to provide his or her own parallel rules or plotter dividers rubber and 2B pencil Refreshments will be available throughout the sessions and there will usually be pub facilities nearby for lunch or recovery Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster Offshore A successful completion of a Day Skippers Shorebased course would be an advantage but not essential Each candidate would however be assumed to have a knowledge of navigation to Day Skipper standard This course will give each candidate the background knowledge to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night If circumstances permit around two hours of this course will be spent out in the dark Day Skipper A course where some practical experience would be beneficial but which also assumes little or no knowledge on the part of each candidate The course content delivers basic seamanship

    up to 500 grt 3 It is recognised that the holder of a Master 200 would have had a considerable amount of additional training at Master level The holder is therefore a step above those holding a Yachmaster Certificate of Competence and ultimately more employable particularly with those companies operating outside the UK The Master 200 Certificate of Competency is also a good lead examination for those seeking higher MCA qualifications What do I need to qualify me for the Master 200 Limited examination 1 MCA RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence commercially endorsed by the RYA 2 RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper Offshore theory certificate 3 STCW Personal Survival Techniques 4 STCW Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention 5 STCW Elementary First Aid 6 STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities 7 A GMDSS Restricted operators Certificate ROC 8 Helm course certificate operational only 9 MCA Notice of Eligibility Should you be missing any of the above apart from the Notice of Eligibility then speak to us We have arrangements in place to help you gain your STCW qualifications your Helm course and your GMDSS Restricted Operators Certificate ROC As a recognised RYA Training centre we can offer you various options to gain your Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper offshore theory certificate and also to prepare you for taking the Offshore certificate of competency The Notice of Eligibility application has to be completed and sent to the MCA together with the fees for the Master 200 examination Once checked and approved a Notice of Eligibility will be issued to you that is valid for five years and can be used at any MCA Examination Centre throughout the country We will provide the Notice of Eligibility documentation and assist in the completion to ensure that all is correct prior to submission to the MCA Master
