to academy status This then allows the academies to manage to their own affairs and crucially select the best and keener pupils and educate them according to ability independently Wierdly considering it was a Labour initiative under Tony Blair s government on The Politics Programme yesterday Andrew Neil had the shadow education secretary Stephen Twigg on decrying that notion now claiming that there really shouldn t be that many academies at all I wish they would make up their minds Its often been said that the difference between one social class and another is education so anything in my book that bridges the social divide and gives bright kids from the less privileged backgrounds a decent education is no bad thing and if that is an academy then so be it Education should be about the kids and not some political ideology to win votes from people already educated enough to want to vote Olga Tags Academies Cove Labour Schools Tweet Leave a comment You are commenting as guest Latest News New Regulations Zero Hours Contracts Current Vacancies November 2015 Changes to National Minimum Wage Current Vacancies Our Location Unit 19 Rossmore Business Village Ellesmere Port CH65 3EY mainIcon blue dot width auto height 200 style default mapTypeId roadmap zoom 12 mapCtrl 2 typeCtrl 0 directions 0 styler invert lightness 0 styler hue styler saturation 0 styler lightness 0 styler gamma 0 adresses Get Directions Useful Links Recruitment Doctor Equality Human Rights Commission Department of Work Pensions Contact Us Noble HR Solutions Unit 19 Rossmore Business Village Inward Way Ellesmere Port CH65 3EN 0151 348 6660 E Mail Us Management We offer a range of cost effective management assessment tools including MAP 2 0 Assessment The only objective management assessment tool in the UK which assesses managers against 12 generic

  • David vs Goliath - the little guy might well win in the end | Noble HR
not fit for purpose I left after half an hour I felt bad for the people left behind I know lots of small providers who would deliver these programmes for a lot less and achieve a lot more genuine results if only they were given a chance But the very way these contracts are tendered is designed to make it next to impossible for the little guy to get a look in Whats the problem In short the whole process is the hands of civil servants who have no idea of the real problems real people face when faced with trying to find work They are academic and policy based by their very nature and love a good complicated presentation filled with incomprehensible management speak delivered by people exactly like themselves which is where the Serco s Capitas and A4E s etc come in Once it comes to actual delivery they haven t a clue as they are not and never will be ever faced with Back to Work programmes themselves So its no wonder that A4E has found itself in hot water for allegedly pulling the wool over the DWP s eyes very easy to do on certain not so honest practices and in Louisa Peacocks interview with Andrew Dutton Chief Executive of A4E for the Sunday Telegraph on 20th May Mr Dutton is insisting its not alone in this a group of MPs is due to question DWP ministers on their handling of fraud allegations across the welfare to work industry not just at A4e suggesting the problem runs deeper than one firm There have been 126 investigations of potential fraud at different providers since 2006 10 of which were A4e related Given my first hand experiences I well believe it I am only shocked that they actually got caught Lousia Peacock in her interview with Andrew Dutton Chief Executive of A4E for the Sunday Telegraph mentions that ministers axed a key contract with the firm after they found its work to be seriously inadequate Last Monday an eighth person was arrested in connection with a fraud investigation at the company s Slough office Mr Dutton eventually concludes We haven t got it right all of the time Tell that to the people who have been shortchanged for a quick buck when looking for work Its high time the government awarded contracts to the little guys at a local level as part of the infamous BIG SOCIETY who have hands on experience who care because it means more to them and will deliver that personal service to get the unemployed and the young back to work Its been proven the Goliath s haven t won just give the David s a chance and they could well save the day and boost another government initiative that of encouraging entrepreneurs and small businesses in order to stimulate growth We would love to hear your views on this Tags A4e David DWP Goliath Outplacement Tweet Leave a comment You are commenting

  • Vince Cable critises the Beecroft report and the cutting of red tape! | Noble HR
who make successful unfair dismissal claims Reform of the rights that workers are allowed to carry to new employers when their companies are the subject of a takeover Scrapping provisions in the Equality Act which make employers liable for claims from employees for third party harassment such as customers making sexist comments to staff in a restaurant Shifting responsibility for checking foreign workers eligibility to work in the UK from employers to the Border Agency or the Home Office The study follows David Cameron s call for British industry to be freed from red tape with labour markets altered to encourage greater investment and fluidity among workers These measures it is argued would improve the supply of suitable staff to firms who would be less afraid of having to make large payouts or face legal action when laying off those who are no longer needed The theory is that firms would hire more staff and the change would make the UK a more attractive place to start and grow a business I am afraid I do not agree with Mr Cable s view working as I do at the coal face of firms dealing with poor performance and behaviour every day of the week I personally believe that the less red tape the better current restrictions do scare people from hiring staff and challenging poor behaviour and performance After all if you are a good professional employee who works hard and does a decent days work you should have very little to fear What do you think of the Beecroft report s proposals Do you agree with the theory that it will make the UK a more attractive place to do business Tweet Leave a comment You are commenting as guest Latest News New Regulations Zero Hours Contracts Current Vacancies

of their normal hours to sickness compared to 1 6 per cent in the private sector One reason given by the ONS is because they are more likely to be paid when they off sick than those in the private sector The figures go on to illustrate that the average state worker earns more money than those in the private sector and does fewer hours each week On average a state worker earns 16 24 per hour but a private sector worker earns an average of 14 11 per hour a gap of 2 13 per hour or 15 per cent And while the average private sector worker does 33 hours and 12 minutes each week a public sector worker does 30 hours and 30 minutes This is a weekly gap of two hours and 14 minutes which is nearly the equivalent of a public sector worker going home 30 minutes earlier every night Makes you think doesn t it Tweet Leave a comment You are commenting as guest Latest News New Regulations Zero Hours Contracts Current Vacancies November 2015 Changes to National Minimum Wage Current Vacancies Our Location Unit 19 Rossmore Business Village Ellesmere Port CH65 3EY mainIcon blue dot width auto height 200 style default mapTypeId roadmap zoom 12 mapCtrl 2 typeCtrl 0 directions 0 styler invert lightness 0 styler hue styler saturation 0 styler lightness 0 styler gamma 0 adresses Get Directions Useful Links Recruitment Doctor Equality Human Rights Commission Department of Work Pensions Contact Us Noble HR Solutions Unit 19 Rossmore Business Village Inward Way Ellesmere Port CH65 3EN 0151 348 6660 E Mail Us Management We offer a range of cost effective management assessment tools including MAP 2 0 Assessment The only objective management assessment tool in the UK which assesses managers against 12 generic

  • Helping the Legend Leave the Building | Noble HR
standard to add insult to injury Liverpool even finished below their neighbours the first time since 2005 So the second learning point is that you need to make sure that you are very clear about the performance standards required of your managers and the consequences of not delivering to those standards This then should be cascaded down the whole organisation Another learning point would be that dealing with poor performance should not be personal it is all about ensuring that the organisation meets its objectives Both FSG and Kenny Dalglish have been very professional as both parties have praised each other and have concentrated on the requirement to put the needs of the business in this case LFC first This can t have been easy for either party however they have maintained their professionalism throughout as the old saying goes you should never burn your bridges on the way up as you never know who you might need on the way down And finally what was the package that smoothed the path for the contract being terminated Whilst we will never know and neither should we I am sure that the package will have been generous and that Kenny will have been adequately compensated Whilst for most businesses that type of final package will not be affordable employers need to weigh up the financial pros cons of terminating an employee s contract verses the impact of keeping them in the business For LFC this was a no brainer as whilst Kenny is an Anfield Legend I am sure that the income that can be derived from being in the Champions League outweighs the cost of termination The next interesting instalment will be the process that FSG go through to find not only Kenny s replacement but also the replacements for

  • A Game of Two Halves | Noble HR
Carroll was asking for the ball didn t notice that going on before his arrival Stevie Gerrard appeared to move further back in the field and opportunities started to materialise My question to business owners would be how well do you know your staff s skills and ability and are you willing to shake things up to improve your performance Another point would be how long do you wait until you address performance issues Carroll joined the game in the 55 th minute that means ignoring extra time the game is 61 completed what would have been the difference if he has come on in the first half when it was obviously that the team were not playing to operating efficiency i e the point at which an employee can complete their role to the level required without direct supervision Too many managers fail to deal with under performance as and when it occurs hoping that by miracle the individual s performance will magically right itself without any intervention this is a fallacy it just doesn t happen One of the underlying issues is getting the right Manager for the job whilst King Kenny will always be an Anfield Legend you have to question whether he is the right person for the job does he possess the competencies required of a first class manager The same applies to managers within business A recent CIPD Report concluded that Too many employees are promoted into people management roles because they have good technical skills then receive inadequate training and have little idea of how their behaviour impacts on others The amazing fact is that most of these deficits can be overcome by making sure that you have the right recruitment talent management performance management plus training development initiatives in place Please feel
