    September Mt Mkubwa 2650m to Shira 1 3480m Trekking time 6 7 hours Height gain 830m After breakfast we continue our ascent the climb gradually steepens before reaching a wide moorland area Lunch break on route daily from now on After lunch ascend the plateau to the start of the Shira Caldera and camp at Shira 1 camp Overnight basic camping Included meals breakfast lunch dinner Day 4 23rd September Shira 1 3480m to Shira 2 3850m Trekking time 4 5 hours Height gain 370m After breakfast at Shira 1 we ll head east across the rocky Shira plateau via the Shira cathedral 3880m remains of the crater towards Shira 2 camp Overnight basic camping Included meals breakfast lunch dinner Day 5 24th September Shira 2 3850m to Barranco Wall 3900m Trekking time 8 10 hours Height gain 650m Height loss 600m Today we will climb over a ridge at 4500m over the Lava Tower which will give us invaluable altitude acclimatisation From here we have a further 5 6 hour trek as we drop down through the Barranco Valley to camp beside the Barranco Wall Day 6 25th September Barranco Wall 3900m to Karanga 3900m Trekking time 5 6 hours Height gain 300m After an early breakfast we climb up through the Barranco Wall which gives us an altitude gain of 300m We continue our trek for 5 6 hours crossing rivers and valleys to end our day at Karanga camp Overnight basic camping Included meals breakfast lunch dinner Day 7 26th September Rest day at Karanga camp 3900m Resting and acclimatising at Karanga Valley camp Short local walks can be undertaken if you feel up to it otherwise relax and allow your body to acclimatise Keep drinking lots of water Overnight basic camping Included meals breakfast lunch dinner Day 8 27th September FULL MOON NIGHT Karanga camp 3900m to Barafu camp 4600m Trekking time 4 hours Height gain 700m After breakfast we will trek to an altitude of 4600m at Barafu camp At the camp we will take an afternoon rest have some dinner then continue to rest in our tents until approx 2300hrs when after some food we commence our trek at midnight to the summit Overnight Basic camping Included meals breakfast lunch dinner Day 9 28th September LUNAR ECLIPSE NIGHT Barafu camp 4600m to Summit 5895m then down to Millenium camp 3750m Trekking time 13 15 hours Height gain 1295m Height loss 2145m Lit by the full moon we shall ascend up to the crater rim through the scree slopes to Stella Point then on to the highest point in Africa Uhuru Peak Stella Point is at 5750m around the crater rim which we shall reach around sunrise We recommend you wear several layers of thermal clothing before starting the trek to the summit After enjoying the amazing views from Kilimanjaro s summit we will trek back down via Stella Point and the scree slopes back to Barafu camp for a few hours rest before heading
