    firms still need to be persuaded about how the Northern Powerhouse will positively impact their business FSB also asked businesses for their views about what the priorities should be for the Northern Powerhouse to succeed FSB found significant support right across the UK for increased local control over public spending with one in three businesses 36 listing this as a priority This increased to two in five 40 among businesses in the North of England However there was less support for local tax setting powers with just 16 of UK businesses backing the idea Businesses in the North of England indicated their top priorities for the Northern Powerhouse are 1 Greater local control over spending 40 2 Investment in digital infrastructure 37 3 Investment in inter city transport 37 4 Investment in workplace skills 36 Commenting on the results Mike Cherry FSB Policy Director said The concept and goals of the Northern Powerhouse have gained widespread support and awareness among businesses across Northern England but we now need to see tangible delivery and results for this support to continue and grow Businesses want the ongoing political discussions about devolving powers to translate into real investment in the infrastructure Northern businesses

    Citrus mHealth is another app currently in development for mobile and tablet devices which can track and monitor a patient s condition Using gamification techniques the patient can record symptoms functions exercise and medications view up to date data showing trends and dips in their progress and share information with their doctor A recent Ofcom study found that six year olds have the same understanding of communications technology as 45 year olds My Avatar Me is an app that enables young people to express themselves through a fictitious character that they can identify with and use to express how they feel which can then be shared with health service practitioners such as Counsellors Health Workers Clinical and Educational Psychologists Strand A of the Interactive Healthcare Programme is for small creative and digital businesses SMEs who wish to bring innovative concepts and or prototypes to the NHS marketplace It s a 250 000 fund that will offer investments of 25 000 to 50 000 to companies based anywhere in the English regions outside of Greater London Financed by Creative England s Regional Growth Fund and in partnership with the Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network GM AHSN the fund will support the development of web mobile and tablet applications that focus on some of the key healthcare priorities identified by GM AHSN Greater Manchester AHSN is a collaborative network of local NHS organisations higher education institutes and industry It is a membership organisation bringing together 30 NHS providers and commissioners and 4 universities Funding will support the development of innovative concepts or prototypes using digital technology to improve patient care and health services and which support the Greater Manchester area They are looking for projects which Push forward creative and commercial boundaries in support of health and wellbeing Have a strong
