    18 I went to the University of Cambridge and took a degree in Moral Sciences married and devoted the next ten years to family matters I then began training in jewellery construction and design at the Mid Warwickshire College of F E and during the course of the next 7 years worked toward the College diploma and City and Guilds qualifications as well as in a casting factory as a mould cutter During the course of the training I discovered some enamels in an unused cupboard of the workshop and began to use them with the help of a book from the local library By great good fortune it was the very best book available and although my work up to that time had been with the precious metals and gem stones I began to incorporate enamels into my designs This was a turning point in my work I now had available a range of beautiful colours rendered even more vibrant and exciting when bonded to silver and gold Freed from the tyrany of pre shaped stones it was possible to produce fluid designs and use the energies of the colours to create an atmosphere usually informed by my early
