Kennel Club Portrait Competition Janet brought her two Patterdale Terriers to the studio for me to take the photographs Lilly 6 months and Jodie 4 years are the best of friends and love playing together In order to get the best expressions I took photos individually and together we selected the best ones for the portrait When they came to collect Janet was really impressed with the finished painting its like they will jump out of the picture you have their characters perfectly Lilly left all inquisitive and Jodie right in anticipation of what will happen next From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life I took the photographs of these two cairn terriers during my exhibition at Burghley Horse Trials The client wanted a full boy pose of both dogs sitting I changed the backgrounds from the photos to one of general outdoor greenery in which to set the dogs for the painting After arranging an appointment for collection the portrait was picked up from the studio and they were absolutely delighted with the results From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life This is a portrait of my crazy spaniel molly She has the most gorgeous intense amber eyes and wanted her to be starring straight at me in the way that she does when I speak to her With treats as a bribe I got her to stay still long enough to get the shot and extremely pleased with this painting of her From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life I photographed this beautiful Husky at the studio Taking care during the painting to portray the crisp clean lines of the fur and bright eyes one blue and one brown From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life Linda commissioned a head study portrait of her 2 border collies from photographs I took on a photo shoot trip after Burghley Horse Trials the portrait is now hanging in the lounge We decided that we would get to see it more in the lounge than in the hall This leaves room for the second portrait when it is done We are extremely pleased with the portrait and it looks wonderful where it is hanging I am currently working on another collie painting for her working from her own photographs of a collie which died a few years ago From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life I met Emma at Crufts and arranged to photograph her 2 rescue dogs at her home She chose her 2 favourite photographs and as they were quite big dogs I painted a MEDIUM sized portrait with plain background From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life This is Indy a Rhodesian Ridgeback I wanted to particularly enhance the furrows on Indy s brow which is typical of the him Click the box above to

was so pleased to see her lovely horses as it was something she had meaning to do for ages From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life I painted Shelley s previous horse a few years ago after meeting her at Burghley Horse Trials So when she wanted her current horse painted she rang me to arrange some for me to take some photographs I was able to book in her on the next shoot trip south I changed the background to a plain colour wash I sent the finished framed Medium painting on a courier as soon as it was finished From Photo 1 From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life Rachael sent a photograph through the post of a very special horse for a painting for her daughter as a special birthday present It was particularly important to show the colouring on the neck of the horse So painting the head in a landscape format it worked really well to show the white markings Rachael was over the moon with the result and was looking forward to giving it to her daughter From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life I met Mrs Fall in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales Her daughter was off to university and the horse was to be sold so they wanted a portrait to remember this special friend Choosing to paint it without the head collar and setting it against a pale background From Photo 1 From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life From Photo 1 From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch

Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life Cats love to hide in the bushes just like this tabby and white cat with its intense stare It s a great way of making a portrait if full body photos are limited From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life Absolutely gorgeous I am so thrilled with it Thank you so very much You are very talented and have captured her look Her eyes are superb It was difficult to get a full body photo of Ann s Cat Chloe So I suggested doing a head pose based on my painting above of the cat looking through the trees by painting in extra leaves and foliage From Photo 1 From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life Working from 2 photographs I put these cats together and setting them in a background with the blankets From Photo 1 From Photo 2 From Photo 3 Watch the Painting Come to Life When cats and dogs are great friends I can put them together This works particularly well with small dogs like this Jack Russell sitting on the sofa which is their favourite place From
