use conventions meetings networking tools Twitter LinkedIn etc to surround yourself with other SAP peers and collaborate read SAP and industry news find an employer that invests in your skills I hope there is a little help in those lines of wisdom above This entry was posted in Blogosphere SAP Market and tagged career Jon Reed SAP Bookmark the permalink One thought on getting passionate about SAP Permalink Jon Reed November 12 2008 at 7 32pm Hey Michael I ve got your comment posted in my blog entry now as well as a detailed response to it I was walled out of my comment approval for a couple days but we re back up and running The last comment I submitted to your site has not appeared either strange we have bad comment karma Anyhow I think your observations that passion in SAP sometimes has to be cultivated by finding the right skills and role are absolutely spot on I won t share all the details from my blog posting response to you on my site because it was kind of long winded but I too had to work on finding ways to unleash my passion for SAP so to speak by finding my right role in the market Like you this definitely meant becoming independent though in my case it s more of an independent analyst role but the same principles you note apply And yes I do think hot skills are important I probably downplayed that in my own post just to make an alternate point But as I see it it s all about adding those hot skills that logically extend from your core rather than a mad pursuit of moving from one area to another all in pursuit of what s hot Anyhow I m enjoying

project selection I think the key point is that the SAP independent consultant role is not for everyone not everyone wants to essentially run their own business of one they would rather stay focused on project work But if it fits your skills and interests there s nothing better than being the subject matter expert the project counts on in your area Anyhow I also wanted to mention there s an interesting post from Vijay Vijaysankar on SAP SCN right now regarding The Road Ahead for SAP Consultants It s one of the first pieces I ve seen to try to talk about the skills needed for SAP consultants in the downturn at least that I didn t write There is a good comment thread on the piece also Here s a link https www sdn sap com irj scn weblogs blog pub wlg 11936 See you on one of our blogs soon Jon Reed Permalink Michael November 14 2008 at 11 17pm You re spot on with the other aspects and requirements you ve mentioned It certainly is not for everyone Another facet also are the agencies which you have to deal with as a freelancer It s important to find a bunch of agents you know and trust as you share some of your most valuable information with them your contacts Thanks for the heads up on Vijay s great post on SDN A very comprehensive and well thought through contribution Speak to you soon Michael Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email will not be published Name and Email fields are required Comment Name Email Website About me My name is Michael Koch SAP Solution Architect Mentor and SAP Press Author This is my company profile and site ABAP Development for SD book Pixelbase Electric Looking for
