  • Devon Show - Popham Alpacas
lunchtime and started judging the fleeces This took quite a while and Teresa and Angela were still at it after dark Thank you to you both Also thank you to the other stewards who helped out namely Dawn Keith and Jenny Thursday was the first halter class day and as can be expected the weather changed It was freezing and there was a little bit of rain but we got through it all quite comfortably Fortunately Friday and saturday improved and we even managed sunshine for the prize giving This was done by The President elect The Honorable George Lopes but only after quite a considerable wait whilst he finished his coffee and desserts Jayne from Quelvehin alpacas was over to help Felicia with the showing I think we need to pick a slightly smaller alpaca for her next time in the adult classes compass towered over her Classical Mile end took the huacaya Supreme and good old Popham clinced the suri Supreme So another show over Peter and I will have a debrief in the near future about some improvements but all in all we are pretty happy with how it went Posted in Cria Post navigation Shearing day Shearing day part 2 4 thoughts on Devon Show Dave Apple Vale says 22nd May 2012 at 9 14 pm Yes thanks Gary Peter and your team good show Reply Patou Warrior says 22nd May 2012 at 11 44 pm And don t forget that Popham Commander finally triumphed over Patou Roger Resilient Reply gary sanders says 23rd May 2012 at 10 17 am LOL Reply steve parker says 25th May 2012 at 5 53 pm As you can see folks I am standing in a bit of a dip and Compass is on tip toes Jayne Reply Leave a

  • Shearing day - Popham Alpacas
was shining and they were looking forward to getting their coats off They smiled knowingly at Colin as they knew he would do a good job It was when they saw me with standing at one of the mats with clippers in my hand that panic set in Fortunately we had quickly blocked the exits and they were trapped so as all alpacas do they resigned themselves to their fate stoically The day went very well Colin zipped through 51 and I soldiered through 11 and as I said all survived I did knick one ear though fortunately the senior partner was warming up the pasties at the time so was and still is unaware Some of my haircuts resemble a new fashion in alpaca goatees and not all tails are quite even all around and there s a few tufts here and there In other words it wouldn t take much guess work to tell which one s I sheared if you looked in the field Posted in Cria Post navigation Escape artists Devon Show One thought on Shearing day steve parker says 14th May 2012 at 8 51 pm yes no comment Reply Leave a Reply to steve

  • CCA Show........ - Popham Alpacas
They are brilliant they let us use their facilities ie barn and field their hurdles all brand spanking new and don t charge us a penny Cornish hospitality The wind tried to blow us to Penzance so I m afraid another gazeebo ended up in the skip but the show went on Jay Holland did a sterling job as judge Very professional apart from very slightly being late and causing me a very small amount of concern or panic He was visiting St Blazey graveyards searching for lost relatives tombstones You see there is a bit of Cornish in everyone even BAS judges No seriously Jay did a fantastic job very relaxed which suited the day and the conditions A great job Supreme Champion was won by Tania Davis with her fawn junior female Caton Juba I forgot my trusty Nikon so no photos I m afraid I also forgot to thank Vicky and Linda and her friend for helping my apologies but your help was greatly appreciated good news at Popham The rhea has started laying again It was a simple problem we weren t feeding them enough I suppose when you are producing a 600gm egg every other day you do need some extra calories We just have to get the male to start sitting again However the two rhea eggs in the incubator seem to be doing well Only problem is that has halted our chicken production line for 35 days Posted in Cria Post navigation Post BBQ daze Hey dad I m just like you One thought on CCA Show Tania Davis says 7th May 2011 at 10 46 am Great show Gary friendly and relaxed Jay Holland is my favourite Judge Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required

  • Hey dad, I'm just like you ..... - Popham Alpacas
on 15th May 2011 29th January 2016 by Gary Sanders Hard day shearing yesterday but got all the alpacas except for the show team done It was a really heartening day to see those fleeces coming off and seeing the improvement we ve made recently There were some that stick in your mind like Cornish Mutiny s little white fleece and Dino s brown fleece Inca Matadors suri fleece at the age of 11years was incredible The highlight was when Camouflage met one of his sons Serengetti Like two peas in a pod Colin Ottery did all the shearing and there were loads of helpers to make what can be a very stressful day pass off quite easily A professional shearer and good team work that is all it takes Posted in Cria Post navigation CCA Show Devon County Show One thought on Hey dad I m just like you patouman says 17th May 2011 at 8 55 am Well that plan seems to have worked rather well then Reply Leave a Reply to patouman Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Comment Name Email Website All Alpacas for Sale Female Alpacas for sale

  • Royal Cornwall Show - Popham Alpacas
this show it s not too far to travel every day as Tracy looks after the stand at night so at least we can come home and sleep in our own beds It s always very busy but especially so this year and the alpacas were as per usual very popular Felicia s new huacaya suri mix yarn flew of the shelf so she was delighted about that There was one rather embarrasing moment for me when during a quiet spell I was nodding off in the corner only to be awoken by a tap on the shoulder by a woman in a very fancy hat Looking up I was shocked to find we were the centre of attention to about a 1000 people The Duke of Gloucester would like to talk to the alpacas said the lady in the fancy hat You have never seen me move so fast I leapt over the hurdles and grabbed Commander and led him over to the Duke for a chat Sure enough Commander didn t let me down and started orgling Now I knew he was going to do this as he hadn t stopped all show The Duke was delighted If only he knew Another visitor to the stand was Kirsty Allsop She was looked after by Felicia who hadn t a clue who she was Kirsty is the lady in the stripped green dress in the photo below So TV personalities and a Royal Appointment not bad for a weekends work Posted in Cria Post navigation Bath West Another girl One thought on Royal Cornwall Show Dave says 13th June 2011 at 10 21 pm So Commanders orgling was to cover up your snoring then Glad it was a good weekend Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address
