  • - Popham Alpacas
for the birth and all went ok even though we had to fish one leg out He weighs in at 9 5kg and we ve put him in with the rest of Group 2 where he is happily chasing aound with all the other youngsters Yesterday was a busy day up at EP Cambridge in Baydon Jane Vaughn gave an interesting talk on alpaca nutrition which will have most of us chucking away our supplements She finished off with a small discussion on Embryo transfer Certainly a way to accelerate your herd improvement programme just a shame its beyond the means of us smaller breeders Perhaps we should get together on it Interesting to hear her say that artificial insemination in alpacas is decades off Mainly because of the small amount they produce and the difficulty in freezing it Also she doesn t feel frozen embryo transfer will be succesfull for some time yet either This was followed by a talk by Ian Watts on follicular density which was basically the American version of SRS He makes it sound pretty convincing so perhaps its something we ll have to look at Perhaps we need a bit more science in our breeding programme Champagne canapes and lunch followed then a long sleep on the way home while Felicia drove Well it was her turn Posted in Cria News Post navigation Open Day at Popham North Devon Show One thought on Mark Steele says 4th August 2008 at 12 56 pm Gary I meant to introduce myself at the soiree but didn t get round to it I have been reading your blog for a while and find it very interesting Always good pictures Hopefully I ll get a chance to say hello at the next alpaca event Cheers Mark Reply Leave
