  • Compass and Camilla - Popham Alpacas
alpacas were open to all the elements so Young Farmers kindly offered us some space in their marquee and we moved the alpaca pen in their where as per normal they were the centre of attention They were even honoured by a Royal Visitor who was rather enchanted by Compass as she passed by Felicia gave Camilla a ball of our wool which she kindly accepted only to have it grabbed of her by a bodyguard who rushed outside and I think carried out a small controlled explosion behind the Royal Royal Range Rover By Saturday the weather had improved enough for us to set up and thankfully business was quite brisk Posted in Cria Post navigation 1st cria and Bath West Late night 3 thoughts on Compass and Camilla Judi says 10th June 2012 at 11 50 am Wow that right royal photo will be one for the album won t it Reply Dave Apple Vale says 10th June 2012 at 10 56 pm Ha ha you just can t be too careful with that Suri wool can you Reply Patou warrior says 11th June 2012 at 6 34 am Are you Popham Alpacas by Royal Appointment now then

  • The Late Early cria - Popham Alpacas
year being so strange in cria arrival times I can t decide if he is the late early or the early late Confused Let me explain remember so far this year all bar one of the cria have arrived early The exception coming at just over 11 months One of our older females called Gingernut not her real name of course has for years now given us very early cria the worst being Chica who came in at about nine and a half months weighing in at 4 5kg She was our first ever bottle fed and a real pet now but thats besides the point The rest have come in at 10 months and to be honest not all of them have made it but we are always watching her closely from very early days This year of course being a strange year Gingernut decides to be late for her and yesterdays arrival came in at almost 11 months But what a beauty he is a black boy hopefully as good as Thunder long live the king etc sired by our black male Equador Weighing in at 6 5kg he is very premature well down on the pasterns so we are milking mum who is an angel but hopefully he will pick up quite quickly Tuesday saw the last of our shearing done for the year The real delight sorry to bang on about the spotties was Amboseli named after after a game reserve in east Africa famous for cheetahs He looks gorgeous probably the best yet and even has a touch of grey in him around his head and ears just like his father Camouflage Posted in Cria Post navigation Number 5 Cosmo does it again Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published

  • We're knackered...... - Popham Alpacas
Thursday Our new gazebo arrived on time and looked very smart though I forgot to take a picture of it I lost count how many times I was asked whether the alpacas were llamas or do they spit etc etc When we got back last night we had to deal with a at risk cria born yesterday A lovely solid brown boy born a bit early and a bit weak The first thing we did when we got back was to milk mum and thankfully she has been a real angel about it and has loads of milk We repeated the process at midnight before collapsing into bed I didn t even hear Felicia get up at 5 00am this morning to feed him again I have checked his IgG levels today and they are low so we have given him some plasma but if that doesn t improve things I ll have to the vet to give him some through the intra peritoneal route Well thats the busy show period over Starting with the Devon County followed by the French show at Terralies Then the Bath West and finally the Royal Cornwal So what does next week hold oh yes back to work Ho hum Posted in Cria Post navigation Post Bath West malaise Hi Barbara thanks for your comments 2 thoughts on We re knackered Barbara Hetherington says 13th June 2010 at 7 14 pm I am glad the kit is coming in useful Gary I think ours has earned it s keep already Are you doing your own venepuncture Carotid Barbara Beck Brow Alpacas Reply Barbara Hetherington says 13th June 2010 at 7 19 pm Sorry that should have asked jugular From a nurse as well I think the night shift on Coronary Care has frazzled the

  • Post Bath & West malaise..... - Popham Alpacas
one second one third and the junior male Championship Not a bad start The Thursday brought out the junior huacayas Our big hope was for our little star Thunder who is unbeaten in the black juniors this year First though we had Alfonso in the junior brown Unfortunately he came up against the same old Classical male that has beaten him into second twice already this year and I m afraid it happened again Maybe next year Alfonso The Colonel didn t fare so well in the junior fawns and had to endure the walk of shame when the cut was made Oh well can t win everything Then next the big one black junior male and bingo Thunder strikes again 1st place ahead of Inca That s the one we wanted On Friday we didn t have any showing and Victoria joined us and we took a trip to Stourhead to look at the gardens What a wonderful place it is especially at this time of year with all the flowers out We even climbed King Alfreds tower Saturday was adults and seniors Here we had Joshua up against his Nemesis from Classical again The renowned Paris Yet again it wasn t to be and Paris won the Adult male with Joshua in second Always a close thing Paris went on to take Supreme and round off a very impressive show for Classical The next few days are busy with preparation for the Royal Cornwall Show Only a trade stand this time The weather doesn t look to promising so hopefully my fancy new gazebo will arrive in time I m beginning to worry I also going to count the numbers of times somebody asks me when looking at the alpaca sign are they llamas Posted in Cria Post
