  • 56 Tonne Compactor abnormal load -
Compactor abnormal load Rapid Response Solutions RRS has transported a 56t refuse compactor 150 miles from Aylesford Kent to Bishop s Cleeve Gloucestershire using a four axle tractor unit and trailer The Portsmouth UK headquartered lifting and transport specialist which is regularly called upon by heavy equipment manufacturer Bomag was summoned to load a brand new refuse compactor model BC 772 RB transport it and deliver the machine to site The 3 8m wide load contributing to a gross transport weight of 96t was followed by an escort vehicle throughout the six hour journey before RRS oversaw unload and handover of the purpose built machine for use on large and small landfill sites Dave Pushman head of transport at RRS said We utilised our largest tractor unit and a four axle Nooteboom trailer which took care of the weight but we also had to keep in mind that the widest point on either side of the load were the solid metal wheels with eight inch protrusions designed to efficiently compact waste onsite but inherently hazardous when in transport RRS had to complete route notification whilst consulting with police authorities and highways agencies The job was executed to plan with the entire process completed in daylight Pushman explained that it is always preferential to transport loads in natural light but there are sometimes stipulations that require travel to be limited to set hours when traffic is at its lightest even overnight The tractor manufactured by Scania and empty trailer had a combined weight of 40t but the refuse compactor was first driven onto the low loader whilst it was flat on the ground Two hydraulic rams then picked the trailer off the ground for attachment to the truck Its four axles supported the weight of the trailer which featured reinforced steel

  • Rapid Response Solutions involved in Contract Lift at RAF Northolt -
as a gate guardian Rapid Response a UK based contract lift specialist was provided with a scope of work by the Ministry of Defence MoD Defence Supply Chain Operations and Movements DSCOM for whom it is a contracted service provider Paul Barber managing director Rapid Response explained that the shape and size of the plane weighing 6 tonnes did not present complications as it had built in lift points and a documented lifting scheme However the biggest challenges were presented by the active airport environment and the elements both of which had to be carefully monitored Additionally the lift was to be executed in an MoD facility meaning an extensive lift plan was required and all possible risks to its safe completion eliminated For example it was a requirement that the LTM 1095 had 25 spare capacity One of Rapid Response s appointed persons Chris Livesey attended the site three weeks prior to the lift to carry out a site survey Livesey created a safe system of work for lifting the plane including selecting a suitable crane KranXpert created the crane calculation drawings Barber said Our lift supervisor briefed the engineers responsible for the plane on the lift day and everyone involved in the task was given clear instructions on their responsibilities A project engineer was supplied to liaise between the lift supervisor air traffic control and the emergency services whilst the lift took place Rapid Response had a maximum weight from the plane specification sheets and an estimated weight based on the items removed prior to display However Barber explained that there was still an unknown quantity in the amount of ballast required to keep the plane level during the lift From storage to the new foundation slabs the plane had to be moved 22 metres across a grassed
