    has been involved with Bolton s Big Christmas Toy Appeal which is coordinated by volunteers from the Bolton Lions The appeal which was launched in November at the Asda store at Astley Bridge aims to collect as many toys as possible before distributing them over the festive period to those who need them most As well as Asda and Seddon the appeal is also supported by Bolton Wanderers Community Trust Bolton at Home Urban Outreach Bolton Lads and Girls Club The Middlebrook AO and Keoghs It is hoped that this year will be the biggest ever with the voluntary organisation targeting a grand total of 2 000 presents to distribute around the local community Seddon has been encouraging the 120 members of staff at its Bolton offices to leave toys in the foyer throughout December The collection has been a resounding success with around 50 toys being donated to the drive This figure was boosted further on Friday when the firm hosted a Xmas jumper day encouraging staff to donate 1 to wear a Christmas jumper to work The 415 raised from this as well as a raffle held on the day were put towards buying more toys for the collection Seddon didn t stop there as six members of staff also helped to pack Christmas hampers for Urban Outreach The charity is providing hampers to struggling individuals and families across the local area containing everything they need to cook a traditional Christmas Dinner Jonathan Seddon Managing Director at Seddon said This project is something that has caught the imagination of the local area and we re doing what we can to chip in and make sure we are able to help as many people as possible Christmas can be a really difficult time of year for some of the

    builder and developer Seddon presented 47 year old Charlie Welsby with a Special Recognition Award for his work with apprentices and young people looking to get into the construction industry The Project Manager was honoured at the company s internal awards ceremony which recognises the achievements of its apprentices and the staff who have gone the extra mile to help them through their training Charlie is currently overseeing the delivery of the 81 home Hindley Yard development which Seddon is constructing on behalf of Wigan Council to be managed by Wigan and Leigh Homes Under his stewardship the site has played host more than 200 young people through work experience placements and school visits The development has also been awarded National Skills Academy status by the Construction Industry Training Board CITB with 14 apprentices learning the tricks of the trade on site Jonathan Seddon Managing Director of Seddon said Seddon is dedicated to supporting its apprentices and opening up our sites to young people curious about careers in construction Charlie s work gives us a great benchmark to measure all of our sites against Having worked for Seddon for the last 15 years Charlie has supported hundreds of apprentices and encouraged many more into careers in the industry he is a testament to Seddon and the clients he works for Cheryl Jones New Build and Regeneration Manager at Wigan and Leigh Homes said This is a fantastic accolade for Charlie and we are proud that he has won this award while working on a Wigan and Leigh Homes development At Wigan and Leigh Homes we are committed to building high quality new homes and creating strong and sustainable communities We very much look forward to the new development in Hindley being completed by Charlie s team and the first residents

    won Civic Building of the Year in the Best Small Project category at the Society for Public Architecture Construction Engineering and Surveying s SPACES awards The ceremony saw buildings developed by local authorities across the UK go head to head to compete for the title and aims to inspire and promote the high quality work carried out in the public sector These are the first Civic Building of the Year awards held by SPACES since the organisation was created from the merger of Society for Construction and Architecture in Local Authorities and Society for Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in June 2015 Built by Seddon in 2014 the Tower Wood Residential Centre replaces cabins that used to be located on the site Lancashire County Council acted as architect and quantity surveyor on the project Located on a patch of brownfield land within the Lake District National Park the building s design minimises carbon emissions and uses sustainable materials to allow the building to blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment The scheme comprises of twin and four bed rooms which can be divided in order to accommodate groups of up to 59 people Tower Wood also encompasses a lounge classroom and two communal area for use by school groups on residential courses or for day trips by thrill seekers and provides courses on kayaking mountaineering and caving Brian Smethurst Operations Manager at Seddon said The Tower Wood Residential Centre is a beautiful scheme that blends seamlessly into the surrounding natural environment so we are very proud that this scheme has beat the competition for this prestigious award It is a testament to the close working relationship we built with Lancashire County Council during the development that the scheme has been named as one of Britain s best civic buildings County Councillor Matthew

    EY Jamie 45 and Jonathan Seddon 43 attended Malsis School in Cross Hills North Yorkshire in the early 1980s and were keen to bring the building back to life after hearing it fell into disuse last year The independent preparatory school shut its doors in December 2015 after falling pupil numbers and a failed merger with Giggleswick School near Settle forced its closure EY s Charles King and Hunter Kelly Joint Administrators of Malsis School Trust have now sold the land and buildings formerly occupied by the school to Seddon Developments Ltd part of the family run Seddon Solutions group The 32 acre plot includes a grade II listed former country estate which contains the main hall of the former school a chapel gatehouse and a number of other buildings The brothers are currently in talks with Craven District Council about bringing forward plans for the site and are keen to work closely with the community on development proposals Jamie Seddon Managing Director of Seddon Developments said I have many happy memories of going to Malsis and was incredibly sad when I heard it had closed its doors last year I hope that together with the council and the community we can find a viable use for the school and the grounds and work together to bring this building back to life creating a number of local employment opportunities along the way L R Jamie Seddon and Jonathan Seddon attended Malsis School during the 1980 s Malsis School was founded in 1920 and is set in countryside with a lake rugby pitches and a nine hole golf course Charles King Executive Director at EY and Joint Administrator of Malsis School Trust said We re delighted to have secured the sale of the land and buildings to Seddon Solutions The funds
