    staff announced pre tax profits of 1 4 million for 2014 as the sector recovers from the recession Despite tough trading conditions Seddon has continued to invest in training with 57 directly employed apprentices and it sees future talent as the key to its future prosperity Rod Sellers Seddon s Chairman said We are in a strong position as the sector recovers from one of the deepest recessions the country has ever seen As a family owned company we have been able to ring fence our training when many of our competitors have slashed budgets to protect profits Where many are now struggling to train to meet contract demands we have steadily increased our workforce and are now in strong position as the market recovers The year to December 2014 saw the construction maintenance and development company focus on building a blended portfolio of projects Seddon has diversified into new commercial markets delivering projects for the Co operative Group Muse Developments and Bolesworth Estates The Government s Help to Buy scheme boosted sales for Seddon Homes with new home sales increasing by 18 5 per cent to 30 6 million in 2014 Over the last year the group has bolstered its senior management team with the appointment of Regional and Commercial Directors in the Midlands a Social Housing Director in the North West and the Managing Director of Seddon Homes Sellers added In the financial year to December 2014 we have concentrated on protecting the strong balance sheet with net assets of 54 3 million and 3 7 million cash being generated from operations We have also strengthened our pre construction team which has allowed us to secure a number of long term framework agreements as well as continuing to remain involved in regeneration projects and to invest in land

    opportunities for the next generation Christopher made Seddon s commitment to delivering first class apprenticeships part of the company s DNA His mission was to train for the industry not just ourselves Christopher remained active at the business until the final days of his life and is survived by his wife Patricia his three children Nicola Jamie and Jonathan who are all now directors at the company and eight grandchildren Christopher s grandchild Josh joined the company as an apprentice plumber last year the fifth generation of the family to work for the business Jonathan who took over from his father as managing director at Seddon in 2007 said Dad s commitment to both the company and the sector as a whole has been unwavering throughout his life He loved what he did for a living and was proud of the way we did business He took great joy in ensuring that next generation were given the opportunity to train and develop their skills and this will be his lasting legacy It makes us extremely proud to think that the example he has set will be passed down through the company for generations to come He remained true to his roots and was well loved and respected in the local community Seddon training and education executive Roy Cavanagh MBE who has worked for the business for 45 years added Having started his career as an apprentice bricklayer Christopher never lost his desire to make sure apprentices were given a voice not just in his own company but across the whole industry I know that some of the happiest times in his career were when he ran the labour team a role that I later took on allowing him to run the sites but maintain a hands on link with the

    the heart of an innovative horticulture area at Rumworth School provides much needed respite from the rain and elements for the pupils taking part in the scheme Students aged 11 19 are being encouraged by the Bolton school to grow their own food learn about the plants they are nurturing and gain real life skills that could see them work in the horticulture industry Alongside the well established garden area the school has also developed a bistro where students interested in the hospitality industry serve up some of the produce grown at the school These projects form part of a plan to offer wider on the job training designed to boost pupils potential and take pride in what they do Kevin Wilkinson Director of Evolution and Innovation at the school said The new site cabin means that the many pupils who use the horticultural area are able to stay out all day have a break with a cup of tea and shelter from the rain We were in need of something to finish the area off and we re absolutely delighted that Seddon has stepped in to help us Seddon is looking to help the school further by expanding the range of skills it can teach and has offered to lend a digger to further develop the horticulture area and provide training in construction to some of the young people It is hoped that more students will get a job thanks to the initiative Maggie Heap Community Projects Manager at Seddon said We re pleased to be able to assist Rumworth School in providing a site cabin for its horticultural area The school is fantastic in the way it provides pupils with life skills and we want to do everything we can to help these pupils realise their potential A
