    the re procured medium value NWCH framework which was announced in February The appointment will see Seddon deliver a 5 million school extension for Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council in Heaton Chapel after successfully winning a mini competition run through the framework The national company which has offices in Bolton will deliver a new junior block at St Thomas CE Primary and establish a seeded sports pitch and running track as part of the contract The new building off Wellington Road North will provide provision of 360 school pupils aged seven to 11 once complete for the start of the 2016 2017 academic year The contract was released through the medium value framework for work worth between 2m and 9m for public bodies and councils in Cumbria Cheshire Greater Manchester Lancashire and Merseyside NWCH expects to award anywhere between 250m and 1bn through the framework over the next three years with an option to extend for a further year The framework will enable public sector organisations and construction companies to work in partnership to deliver projects more efficiently on time and within budget with an enhanced focus on quality added value and sustainability outcomes Andre Witter Construction Manager at Seddon said We are delighted to have been awarded our first contract released through the new framework Seddon has a reputation for delivering high quality school projects across the UK and I look forward to adding St Thomas to that ever growing list We hope that this is the first of many contracts we secure through the framework As part of the contract Seddon has promised a number of apprenticeships work placements and work experience posts Cllr Alexander Executive Member for Safe and Resilient Communities at Stockport Council commented that Stockport Council aims to provide the best possible learning environments for children

    Orchard adult training centre which has been empty for three years including a modern single storey extension to the 1970s building The primary school will cater for 210 pupils and provide 26 part time nursery places when the first phase completes in September The school which has been designed by a team at Entrust a joint venture company set up between Staffordshire County Council and Capita will be run by Reach2 Academy Trust This is the sixth project that Seddon which has offices in Birmingham and Stoke will have delivered as part of the Staffordshire County Council Construction Framework Eamonn Burns Regional Director for the Midlands from Seddon said We are delighted to have been appointed to regenerate this building which has been disused for a number of years into a much needed new school The ability to develop new facilities like the Five Spires Academy is becoming increasingly crucial to support growing communities Last year alone we secured 30 million of work to create and refurbish school buildings and thanks to our appointment to a number of frameworks in the Midlands we hope to be able to deliver many more in the future County Councillor Ben Adams Cabinet Member for Learning and Skills at Staffordshire County Council said Seddon have a good track record in Staffordshire We have worked with them on a number of school building and refurbishment projects which have been delivered on time and to the highest standard We want to ensure every child in Staffordshire has the opportunity to access outstanding education and this also means ensuring there are enough primary school places in the area to cope with demand Demand for places has risen in this area of Lichfield so it is essential we work quickly to ensure there is enough space and choice

    Go back 31st Mar 2015 Charity bus back on the road after funding boost Builder and developer Seddon has put a charity that provides affordable holidays for Salford s elderly and disabled residents back on the road to success The company alongside social housing provider Pendleton Together has sponsored the Salfordian Hotel s buses for five years to the tune of 1 000 Manchester based Booths Charities put up the money for the trust to purchase the buses while the vehicles signage was provide free of charge by Worsley firm M A Brown The hotel which is run by the Salfordian Trust provides specialist fully accessible accommodation and affordable holidays for the over 50s in Salford many of whom cannot afford a break Seddon was approached for sponsorship as the trust could no longer afford the cost of the providing transport for the 80 mile round trip for its guests The vital funding boost from Seddon will ensure the trust can provide subsided transport to and from the seaside hotel in Southport Councillor David Lancaster Vice Chairman of the Salfordian Trust said I am delighted with the support from Seddon Pendleton Together and Booth Charities as the busses will benefit guests immensely The Salfordian Hotel has been supported by Booths Charities for over 16 years and their support has been invaluable The Salfordian was built by Salford Council in 1963 to provide a home from home for residents and their carers with 24 hour on call support Maggie Heap Community Projects Manager at Seddon said By providing affordable holidays the Salfordian Trust is a lifeline for those in need of a bit of rest and relaxation We are proud to help such a great Salford institution and hope that our sponsorship of the buses will help many more vulnerable people

    of four first tried to get a job in construction at 16 but was laughed out of the room by careers advisers who told her she should apply for roles in health and social care instead as it was a more fitting industry for a woman to work in She said Shelby has the career I have always wanted and dreamed of and I think that has spurred her on to get her apprenticeship and work hard It was a different time back then and I had to fight to get where I am today so it is heart breaking that thousands of young women are throwing these job opportunities away Shelby is now in the third year of her apprenticeship with Seddon and hopes to become a site manager in the future She is one of 57 apprentices employed by the company which has taken on apprentices for the last 80 years Every year the company receives around 800 applications for its apprenticeship programme last year around 10 per cent of those applications were from women Nicola Hodkinson Business Services Director at Seddon said The industry has come a long way in the last 20 years and we are seeing the numbers of women applicants picking up but not as quickly as we would like them to We want to send the message that the gates are open construction companies want to employ more women like Shelby Her mum Racheal battled to be taken seriously when she said she wanted a career in construction don t let her hard work go to waste As a country we are building more than we ever have before careers in construction offer excellent chances for progression and apprenticeships teach you skills for life Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that

    children to visit the site and view the development work As well as having a guided tour the groups received an insight into the recruitment process for apprentices The students also had the chance to meet people who work in the industry who answered any questions On Saturday 7th March the site was open to the general public and anyone interested in finding out about the construction industry could take a tour of the site The City Council development is being delivered in partnership with the Sapphire consortium which is a partnership between Your Housing Group Eric Wright Group and Kajima Partnerships Limited with Eric Wright Group constructing 250 apartments at the two other Sapphire sites in Stoke Abbey Hulton and Blurton Mike Whittington Contracts Manager at Seddon said We were delighted to have pupils from local schools taking a very keen interest about how we build our schemes and talking to one of our apprentices about careers in construction Opening our doors and getting young people on site to understand the work we do will be vital in attracting the next generation of workers into our industry Richard Turpin Director of Sapphire said The open days are an opportunity to show local people what we re doing This scheme is already having a very positive impact on the local community with 65 per cent of materials coming from the City and 80 per cent of the people who work on site coming from the city region The development is creating 20 new apprenticeships for young people with one teenager already hired as a bricklayer We hope that welcoming people onto site has inspired more to take up a trade Your Housing Group one of the UK s largest housing associations will manage the 390 apartments once they are completed
