    Khan carried out the official re opening of the North Shelton Community Centre in Milton Street Shelton The centre has been transformed thanks to housing and care provider Sanctuary Group working in partnership with construction specialist Seddon centre owners The Foundation Stoke on Trent City Council local residents and other community organisations Seddon which is working with Sanctuary locally building new affordable housing has carried out a range of activities at the centre including installing new noticeboards and a picnic area repairing the car park and organising a community fun day when artist Chris Guest and local young people created a colourful graffiti wall New railings are also being installed at the centre In addition youngsters also took part in a community gardening session organised by Seddon putting in winter bedding plants Inside the facility Seddon painters worked alongside local young offenders supervised by the Werrington Youth Offending Team repainting cloakrooms and the main hall Sanctuary s project manager Jane Johnson says The community centre has been transformed over the last few weeks both inside and outside and we would like to pass on our thanks to our Seddon the council and all those from the community who got involved Sanctuary always aims to support the communities it works in and we are proud to be able to be part of such a worthwhile project It has been fantastic to see local people especially the younger members of the community coming together in this way and we hope the improvements at the centre will make a difference in North Shelton for a long time to come Seddon business unit manager Ian Calder says It s great to see the North Shelton Community Centre back at the heart of the community where it belongs We re delighted to have been able

    has been appointed by Rooftop Housing Group to build a 49 home 5 9 million specialist housing scheme for older residents in Coleford Gloucestershire Construction work has just started on the development which will create a dementia focused housing with care complex made up of 28 one bed apartments and 16 two bed apartments The 4 913 sq m extra care apartment development is designed around a central courtyard and garden The scheme also includes a Wellbeing Centre which will be open to the public and house a café meeting rooms activity spaces and a hub facility for outreach services In addition five two bed accessible chalet style bungalows will be built at the site Gloucester based Quattro are the architects for the scheme which is due to be completed in February 2015 It is being built on land which has previously been used as a car park next to Bank Street in the town centre All homes will be for affordable rent and will meet the Lifetime Homes standard which means they can be readily adapted as residents needs change David Hannon development director at Rooftop Housing Group says It s fantastic news that Seddon are starting work on regenerating this under used brownfield site The scheme will make a real difference to the lives of older people in Coleford as well as improving facilities for the wider community and providing a boost to the local economy Seddon business unit manager Grant Millar says We are delighted to be working with Rooftop to deliver this new affordable housing scheme which will provide high quality accommodation for older residents built to an extremely high standard Properties will be modern and energy efficient achieving Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes the system for measuring homes environmental performance Sustainable features

    rent or shared ownership and 28 new build two three and four bedroom houses for rent The scheme is designed by PRP Architects The development is part of the 2011 15 Affordable Homes Programme and will receive nearly 2 5 million investment from the Homes and Communities Agency HCA Sanctuary has appointed its framework partner Seddon as the contractor for the scheme which is expected to complete in March 2015 Part of a major redevelopment of the Slater Street area of Middleport Stoke on Trent the project will create significant job and training opportunities for the area At least half the workers on site will live within ten miles of the development and a number of apprenticeships will be created giving young people the chance to learn their trade working on the developments The extra care three storey housing complex will offer older residents the chance to live independently with support available if needed Its communal facilities will include a gym hair salon and shop The new housing development will also create energy efficient new affordable homes for rent through Sanctuary The development has been awarded to Seddon through its four year partnership with Sanctuary which will deliver 700 new build homes across the Midlands Jonathan Mullins Sanctuary s head of development for the Midlands says This is an exciting new development set to make a positive contribution to the local community in Middleport through the new homes and the new jobs it generates Our team is excited to be working on this latest scheme for Sanctuary delivering much needed housing for older residents and high quality new build affordable homes for rent says Seddon business unit manager Ian Calder Importantly the Slater Street redevelopment will also contribute to the wider regeneration of the area by providing a range of

    went to chartered legal executive lawyer Amanda Cox The award was presented to Amanda by Hazel Blears MP for Salford and Eccles Based at Seddon s Bolton head office in Plodder Lane Amanda lives in Bolton and joined Seddon in 2005 Earlier this year she qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives after completing six years of part time study and law related work While working with Seddon Amanda gained her Professional Diploma in law and Professional Higher Diplomas in Contract Land Company and Conveyancing law Amanda s success is the result of sustained hard work and dedication over a number of years says Seddon commercial director Keith Waddington The company is committed to supporting individuals throughout the company in developing their careers and Amanda is a great example of this The company named 18 year old Shelby Knight from Walkden Salford as its 1 st Year Apprentice of the Year After joining Seddon in 2012 the teenager is working towards her NVQ Level 3 qualification in painting and decorating combining developing her work on site with college based learning at Salford City College Seddon painting manager Danny McCann says Shelby has done really well at site and at college She has proved that she can do all aspects of the job works very hard and to a high standard and always wants to learn more It s a pleasure to have her as part of our team Twenty year old apprentice joiner Matthew Green Morris who lives in Walkden Salford was chosen as the company s 2 nd Year Apprentice of the Year Matthew is working towards his NVQ Level 3 joinery qualification with the company s support and is a student at Salford City College Seddon site manager Chris Meads says Matthew has demonstrated

    Seddon will be honoured at a VIP awards event on Friday 1 November at Salford City College MP for Salford and Eccles Hazel Blears will attend to meet the company s rising young stars and will also present the Outstanding Contribution in Learning Award for the apprentice trainees or graduate who has most shone in 2013 Awards will also go to the top apprentices in their first and second years of training and to the company s overall Apprentice of the Year 2013 Seddon has received a series of accolades for its training achievements including being named Employer of the Year for the second time in three years by the UK Contractors Group in 2013 for its industry leading apprentice programme Places on the programme are keenly contested with Seddon receiving 870 applications for the 2013 intake Seddon has also recently secured National Skills Academy for Construction status for its plans to train 50 apprentices create over 90 new jobs and organise 134 work placements over the next three years Hazel Blears Labour MP for Salford and Eccles said We have some really talented young people here in Salford and across Greater Manchester Sometimes they just need to be given that chance to show what they can do and it is fantastic that Seddon is doing that through its apprenticeships and trainee schemes I was delighted to hear how these young people had worked hard to make the most of these opportunities and it will be a pleasure to present one of the awards Staff across Seddon were invited to nominate candidates for the awards and put forward apprentices and trainees excelling in their field and committed to progressing their careers with Seddon Seddon managing director Jonathan Seddon says The talent and dedication displayed by our apprentices and trainees across
