you see real genuine improvements You might be lucky and things could just click but without some fairly heavy duty systematic testing it s just an expensive lump of plastic giving you duff advice When it works though it really can be fantastic As an example on a day where I ve been to the gym and walked to the supermarket so far I ve had 5 2 4 6 4 3 4 1 these include pre and post meal levels and I ve not had any hypos Now those are just a bit low for comfort but the beauty of a pump is that I can just dial down my basal by a few for a few hours to take the edge off Oh and if noone has recommended it yet get hold of a copy of Pumping Insulin by John Walsh Very practical and with lots of nitty gritty detail tables calculations to help with set up and review Hope it goes well 4 July 2013 at 12 03 pm 15427 Tim Keymaster Well as a starter for ten there are three billion articles about pumps here http www shootuporputup co uk tag pump Like Mike says it s a lot work I found I had to re learn diabetes Everything I did on MDI went out the window However I found I was pretty stable within a few weeks and mastered it within a few months Now I couldn t live without it 4 July 2013 at 12 05 pm 15428 Tim Keymaster I think this is possibly quite a useful article if you want need encouragement Great expectations met 4 July 2013 at 12 22 pm 15429 Anonymous Incidentally In my ramble I meant to say lesser extent I m not sure what a letter extent

long acting insulin you need in the case of pump failure and be aware that once the pump stops working you have absolutely no insulin in you apart from remaining bolus Also remember that you have long acting insulin in you when able to reconnect to a pump I hope I m now better prepared should the need arise again to use MDI although once is more than enough 10 May 2013 at 10 03 am 15355 Tim Keymaster This is good advice Megs I only have one on your list my pump settings are in a document on Google Drive which I can access from any device but I don t have any non pump compatible insulin and I have absolutely no idea how much Lantus I would need The thought of using MDI for even a short time sends shivers down the spine 24 May 2013 at 2 17 pm 15368 Anonymous My team said that If my pump failed you could administer the short acting insulin every 2 4 hours obviously checking your levels rather than going back onto the dreaded Lantus Thankfully the Accuchek spirit failure only involed not being able to use a couple of buttons which could be got around by adjusting the settings phew 31 May 2013 at 2 44 pm 15370 Tim Keymaster As I recall mustard Alison write an article about this very topic some years ago she went to London and back sans pump and relied on a hyperdermic and the contents of her resevoir 3 June 2013 at 3 49 pm 15383 Anonymous Should the need ever arise again and I m really hoping one pump failure is enough I would definitely use the short acting insulin only plan rather than reverting to the injecting long acting that used

Artoo Are they called Aquapacs Has anyone used one Are they any good I m not expecting a full on dunking but I d be a bit nervy a leaving Artoo on the shore and paddling off into the bay and or b setting a lowish TBR only to dip my pump in salty water 10 minutes later Am I right in thinking Alison used something like this for wild and salty sailing holidays before settling into domestic baby bliss Any tips reviews horror stories 3 June 2013 at 11 33 am 15380 Alison Keymaster You re right mike in the days when my life didn t revolve solely around milk poo and cuddles I did use an aquapac for white water rafting It worked perfectly it was splashed lots and fully submerged a couple of times and the pump remained bone dry The pack is transparent and flexible so you can see the pump and bolus without taking it out It comes with a warning that some people have found that the tube gets slightly compressed by the case but I ve had no problems with that and cgm never showed any sign that I wasn t getting the right amount of insulin when using the Pac I d recommend it Happy holidays I hope they fall on the sunny week of the year 3 June 2013 at 11 40 am 15381 Alison Keymaster Also tubes of hypostop gel are fab for waterbased stuff because they re quick to eat fast acting and waterproof The only downside is they taste vile and the texture makes me gag but you can t have everything 3 June 2013 at 11 53 am 15382 Anonymous Thanks Alison Ahhhhh milky pooey cuddles Happy days Author Posts You must be logged in to reply

  • Topic: Looking for contributors for a BBC Documentary | Shoot Up or Put Up
in the national media I am really keen to make a sensitive and thoughtful documentary series giving a voice to a group of young people from across the country who are feeling the impact of their health in their day to day lives We don t want to reinforce stereotypes or present naive or ill informed explanations The BBC 3 audience is younger than most of the other BBC channels teenagers through to those in their twenties but many other people outside of this age range watch it too so the programme will aim to appeal to them also The tone of the programme will be to tackle serious issues in an accessible and informative way and we want to treat them honestly and realistically I also feel it is very important to highlight that we have a very strong duty of care towards our contributors especially on topics of sensitive nature like this We are very keen to hear and address any concerns that you may have so that we can work together to ensure we do no damage to any people who feature in the programmes It would be great to be able to meet you and discuss these issues further even if ultimately you decide it isn t for you it would be useful for us to be aware of your concerns so that we can incorporate them in our approach and have them reflected in the final programme We will have measures in place for our contributors to have support and assistance before during and after filming My email is harjeet chhokar silverriver tv I would welcome the opportunity to have a further chat with and give you more details about the documentary series Thank you so much for your help and I look forward to
