that old style foods are very on trend at the moment especially in cities like London so we wanted to mix local homely foods with a cosmopolitan slant We re all really excited about this new venture and I feel privileged to be in a position to help run three businesses I wouldn t be in the position I am now with the experience I ve gained in the catering industry if it wasn t for my course at Shrewsbury College The course gave me the skills and knowledge of the industry and it is where I made my first pie It was more intense than I thought it was going to be I thought that as my parents are both in the catering industry I already had a lot of the knowledge I needed but I soon learnt I was wrong The experience of the lecturers and the knowledge they passed on was vital As soon as I got my qualification I was employed as a chef de parte at the Silverton The chefs in the family are always coming up with and creating new pie recipes The family also encourage ideas and feedback from customers Current sweet and savoury pie flavours include sausage and onion all day breakfast lamb curry lemon meringue chocolate brownie and many more Kimberley Jones sister of Bethany oversees the sales retail and marketing of the business She said I m the odd one out in the family because I didn t study Catering at Shrewsbury College But it does mean I have the experience required when it comes to retail I was a manager of a store for a few years so have the necessary retail knowledge We pride ourselves on being a local business which supports other local business and produce suppliers

  • Agents v Distributors: which is best for your business? - Shropshire Business Today
behalf of a business and is paid commission on the sales they make usually on a percentage basis A distributor on the other hand is essentially an independent contractor the business sells its products to the third party who then sells the products on to customers of their own adding a margin to cover their own costs and profit By appointing someone else to handle your sales you can benefit from an agent or distributor s local knowledge and established trade connections You can also save on the costs of having to set up your own sales operation But you need to decide which set up will meet the specific needs of your business most appropriately Graham said there were a number of situations where an agency arrangement may be the best way forward It will allow you to keep greater control of the terms of sale of your products particularly the price as you can retain the right to fix whatever prices you like You will also be able to manage the agent s decisions on which customers they choose to deal with and there will be fewer competition law issues to contend with too Graham said through an agency agreement businesses can also maintain direct contact with their customer base This is extremely important if your business offers bespoke work or highly specialised after sales support that only you can provide as it keeps you in touch with the contacts you ve worked so hard to build up Typically the commission paid to an agent is also lower than the margin which a distributor will earn so an agency deal will probably cost your business less in the longer term too SHARE Facebook Twitter tweet Previous article Cyber security where exactly do we draw the line Next article
