  • SilverWood Books - News: Trish Knight publishes her moving memoir with SilverWood
The Knight family suddenly found themselves in the media spotlight and fighting bureaucracy to uncover the truth surrounding the tragic loss of a son and brother Now you can read their story in The Crash of Nimrod XV230 A Victim s Perspective published on 28 January to commemorate what would have been Ben s thirty first birthday Since Ben s death Trish has kept a journal detailing her journey which forms the basis of this book From the moment she hears about the crash on TV making her fear the worst to her visit from the RAF officers who give her the news that no parent should ever receive and the endless struggle to reveal the preventable nature of the crash this is the true story that many will find hard to believe After years of inquiries reviews and investigations Trish and her husband Graham now know that the Nimrod crash was the result of failures within the MOD and RAF but that doesn t bring back their son However their pursuit of justice for Ben s death has perhaps helped to save the lives of future servicemen and women The Knights persistently pushed through the barriers established to hide the truth revealing the un airworthiness of Nimrod aircrafts and forcing the MOD to ground them indefinitely Learn how this private quiet family from Somerset had their lives turned upside down as they refused to give up This book is a tragic and at times frustrating must read that will make you question your beliefs about the people we re meant to trust most Some of the proceeds of this book will be donated to Médecins Sans Frontières a charity delivering medical care to those affected by conflict epidemic or disaster regardless of race religion creed or political affiliation Although

opportunity to catch up with Melanie post publication I was also extremely excited to see behind the scenes and witness first hand what goes into making a set of great book trailers I certainly wasn t disappointed Following a few introductory emails between Overlook s Tony O Callaghan Melanie and me Tony consulted directly with Melanie and was able to prepare a detailed call sheet which set out the direction the shoot would take and thus we were set to film Given the subject of Melanie s book The Faery Tale of Rosie Quartz a garden setting seemed idyllic so Tony found not one but two locations which would provide a suitable backdrop It was these extra details that made the day such a success too because the morning of the shoot out came the storm clouds Playing it safe we opted for our back up location and it was just as lovely as I d pictured our first choice would be Armed with Melanie s promotional props copies of the book outfit choices and a wonderful rose quartz stone Melanie and I arrived at this tranquil spot We were warmly greeted by Tony and sound technician Richard who d arrived early to prepare their equipment Once filming began I was pleasantly surprised again by the ease with which Melanie took to filming and I wasn t alone When speaking to Tony about the shoot he said We had a great afternoon filming in a lovely location with a very professional team A special mention for Melanie who was incredible in her delivery attitude and attention to detail A really easy and enjoyable shoot which I m sure will come across in the final edits It all sounds a bit too good to be true I know But as Tony

  • SilverWood Books - News: From SilverWood to a Mainstream Deal
and did a great deal to help me shape my proposal With non fiction a lengthy proposal and sample chapters is what is sent to the publishers However he warned me at the beginning that it was not a great time for historical biographies such as mine It was still deep in the recession My timing has never been great Five years earlier he said any publishers would have bitten off my hand for it He tried and got interest but not enough to get a commission When a year later an independent publisher told me that if times were better he would very likely have bought it I thought That s it I m not waiting any longer I had spent several years researching and writing the book I wasn t prepared to let it be for nothing Enter SilverWood With a company name on the book and a beautifully designed cover the look is more professional They dealt with the legal aspects of library deposits and got it on Amazon and other places like Waterstones website A few months after publication SilverWood told me about a literary competition that I wouldn t have known about otherwise It was a mixed media competition for novels and non fiction I entered and to my amazement in 2013 it was one of 12 longlisted by judges who included the author Esther Freud I was particularly chuffed that another longlister was the novelist Joanna Trollope Neither of us was shortlisted Better luck next time Joanna For me it was important for the purpose of any future books I may write which I knew I wanted to do that I had something to show to mainstream publishers Rather than saying you wrote a book once but it was never published you can shout

  • SilverWood Books - The Crash of Nimrod XV30: A Victim's Perspective
an ebook for a wide range of e readers including Kindle iPad Nook and Kobo Author Trish Knight says I am not a writer I am a mother My youngest son Ben was killed aboard RAF Nimrod XV230 in the skies above Afghanistan on 2 September 2006 He was twenty five years old The aircraft caught fire after air to air refuelling and a Mayday was declared The aircraft exploded in mid air All fourteen crew on board were killed When Ben was growing up there were many occasions that warranted me wishing him good luck school exams or a game of squash to name but a few However Ben possessed a very logical mind and would always reply by saying There s no such thing as luck Mother He believed success depended upon knowledge learned if he was unable to answer a question then he believed it was because he had not taken enough time to study the subject and if he lost a game of squash it was because on the day his opponent was a better player It was nothing to do with luck After the loss of Nimrod XV230 a small number of people criticized the intensity of our quest to establish what caused the aircraft to catch fire and explode killing all fourteen men on board Some said that those on board were simply unlucky and that it was just an accident and thought we should leave it at that But there was no escaping Ben s words For what happened aboard XV230 on that fateful Saturday was a result of a prior action It had nothing to do with luck and although it was an accident as opposed to a deliberate act all accidents have a cause Since Ben s death the family has fought tirelessly to uncover the true state of the Nimrod fleet and to obtain an element of justice for Ben by bringing those people responsible for his death and the loss of XV230 to account In our opinion our son was killed by incompetence not by insurgents The Ministry of Defence has accepted responsibility The Nimrod Review by Charles Haddon Cave QC and commissioned by the Government in my opinion gave the illusion of justice but delivered none Although we welcomed its findings unfortunately it was left up to the families to pursue justice if they so wished The publicity that surrounded the initial loss of XV230 was immense and immediately thrust us into the media spotlight In an attempt to come to terms with everything that was happening to us at that time I began to keep a diary for I didn t want such an horrific situation to eventually fade into obscurity I recorded everything that happened to us on a daily basis for the first three months following Ben s death and continued to keep a weekly journal there afterwards including the mix up of body parts and having a writ served upon me I continued to
