and I let people know I was a little nervous This created support and intrigue When I made the announcement it was important that it had a call to action There were three requests help me spread the word and share this with your friends if you have a group or following please let them have this link please buy my book and I listed how I then rewarded them for their purchase with freebies A friend built me a simple two page website with a sign up page and when people gave me their email address they got a free gift When they sent me an email with proof of purchase they got four free gifts see the website for the details of the gifts I came up with There must be a limited time frame for giving free gifts such as making it a pre launch offer I used Christmas to put into people s mind the idea of buying the book as a gift You need these early buys as they become reviews on Amazon and Goodreads which in turn generates sales After a few weeks I will email those who bought the first copies with an offer to be entered into a competition to win some great prizes dinner for two 18 carat gold earrings right the way down to signed books with the winners to be drawn at your launch To enter readers will need to write a review of the book and email it to me At my launch I will have helpers with iPads who will ask people to write reviews then and there to be entered into the competition too I will do my reading at the start of the launch just incase guests haven t read it so they can review

  • SilverWood Books - News: Marian Annette's Post-publication Advice
I sent some complimentary rhymes to the store regarding the exemplary behaviour of their staff I did this on the advice of Helen Hart the Director of SilverWood Books Bristol After a few phone calls and some reminder visits a date was arranged for my launch I was given a corner of their Cafe and they supplied Bucks Fizz and Mince Pies The charity that the supermarket supports was our local Hospice so I volunteered to donate a percentage of my proceeds to their cause This helped because the supermarket included that information on an advertisement board at the front of the store Our local paper picked up on the charity donation so did an article about me and my book in their weekly paper Unfortunately the paper quoted the wrong time but I doubt if it made a great deal of difference because the friends that wanted to buy a copy had been told the correct time from me via text and emails I managed to sell 30 books at that event which pleased me as I was limited to a two hour slot because of a lunch time rush My book cover photograph was a view from the castle museum in my childhood town so I made a personal visit there with my book to see if they thought there would be local interest The curator kindly agreed to take five books on a sale or return basis for their literary corner Whilst in my home town I visited my old school and they arranged for me to be interviewed by some pupils who will an write article for their local paper I had left that school in 1966 Anyway they decided to stock one of my books in their library I felt obliged to give some copies

  • SilverWood Books - News: Launching 'Girl Cop in Trouble'
attempt to reduce the queue I didn t want to deter those who wanted their books signed in person on the night so I also had a pile of unsigned books next to the till too and an obvious signing table was set up adjacent to the counter The plan worked and as a result I enjoyed the evening far more than my first launch I was able to work the first floor of Waterstones where the event was held mingling amongst my 150 guests and only went to the table when people requested I sign their books Pre launch prep In the months running up to the launch I kept a lookout for any wine deals and managed to get a respectable wine at a very reasonable price This is one of the biggest outlays for a launch so worth shopping around for I had kept my to do list from last time and wrote out a weekly planner for the final two weeks to plot when I needed to order my helium balloons place an order for the wine glasses hire etc I recruited 6 good friends to assist on the night to run the bar chaperone the singer and graphologist and sell the raffle tickets All were involved as helpers or guests last time and willingly volunteered their time I also wanted to make this launch different in some way to the first as many of the guests would have supported me at that first launch so I hired a professional graphologist who did a fantastic job I had some great feedback who provided free hand writing analysis throughout the event She really did go down a storm I invited a young singer song writer to provide some music this was background music and not a performance

  • SilverWood Books - News: Celebrating 8 years of SilverWood Books
Founded in March 2007 by author turned publisher Helen Hart the key feature of a SilverWood book is that it aims to match or even exceed the production values of the large traditional publishing houses such as Penguin and HarperCollins This means that a SilverWood author ends up with a well made and marketable book in an industry that is often criticised for low production values Publishing Director Helen Hart says The perception was once that if a book was self published then it wasn t as good as those published conventionally but that s completely out dated now Ambitious authors are keen to educate themselves do their research and engage professional help SilverWood s expert team works closely with writers to ensure that books are edited and professionally designed typeset and printed Authors now want to work with companies that will put care and attention into their books To celebrate 8 years and almost 400 books and ebooks SilverWood Books have just published Selection Box a collection of writing from 10 well loved authors including Historical Novel Society Indie Award 2014 shortlisted Alison Morton finalist David Ebsworth and 2015 finalist Anna Belfrage SilverWood authors also include former BBC Radio
