  • SilverWood Books - News: The Promotion of Matlock the Hare
online experience has to be easily understandable We now have over 4000 followers growing daily and have found amongst them some wonderfully loyal Matlockers which persuaded us to crowdfund the second novel in the trilogy The Puzzle of the Tillian Wand again a process that can prove trickier than first appears but if you ve done your groundwork your pitch is good and your potential sponsors are aware of the bid then funding is possible You can see our pitch here The next step was to write and illustrate the book whilst also marketing ourselves and Matlock locally through as many independent bookshops and art galleries as possible alongside moving further afield to Derbyshire and Matlock itself We began visiting local schools and spreading the Matlock griffles Some contacts we got from Twitter others came from our website which we also had to totally re design It s a kit format site but fortunately Jacqui s daughter was able to make it truly majickal overseeing its construction and filling it full of moving gifs to compliment the sales side of our Matlock art prints and cards in the site shop Take a look here we re very proud of it Any folk who now ask us Who s Matlock the Hare can go straight to the website So with the publication of T he Puzzle of the Tillian Wand we wanted to make a promotional book trailer for both books in the trilogy so far It seemed like a big ask We d only just submitted the finished manuscript to SilverWood who made a crumlush job of the book as always and were knee deep in Christmas promoting Trefflepugga Path and a grillion other things besides However because Jacqui myself and the growing number of Matlock fans believe in the

  • SilverWood Books - News: Get Clear on Your Book Idea!
the third book that takes off so you have to keep going but you need a solid idea Some authors have too many ideas I call this the interdisciplinary mind There brain is swimming with ideas but they just don t know which to focus on Then there is the question of if there is even an audience for the book Getting really clear on your book idea before you start is profoundly valuable However sometimes over thinking about it is not the way to find the direction The key is to get back in touch with why your write the real burning desire Is it to change the world in someway or to entertain Getting under your passion and making it bigger than your resistance can make you a powerful author and change maker of the zeitgeist no pressure But it starts with getting clear about you Getting clear on why you write and the deeper message behind your work means you spring into the right idea and also if you have a deep passion for it it s more likely to be a book of our point in time and others will have a passion for it too thus you ll find your audience I do know what I am talking about in terms of teaching a methodology for solid ideas I m an author with three publishers for non fiction including the international phenomenon Hay House and I now have my first erotic fiction out with SilverWood called Cupcakes and Coffee under the name Rebecca Stone I really understand the need to come up with great ideas sometimes under pressure of a publisher which is a happy problem to have To help you I d like to invite you to have for free the first few lessons

  • SilverWood Books - News: Do One Thing a Day that Scares You
by myself We don t have tubes in Sydney It s a much smaller city so for this Aussie girl navigating London s underground stations is a little daunting I was on my way to The London Film School to take part in a weekend workshop titled Visual Storytelling an introduction for directors writers and producers The school is in Long Acre Road between Leicester Square and Covent Garden I was nearly at the door when I walked past a retail sign which read Do one thing a day that scares you I smiled to myself Having graduated from university in 2002 it s been a long time between classes and I felt out of my comfort zone I ve worked in publishing since 2001 and have run and attended countless editorial meetings and workshops But this one was different This wasn t one of my meetings where I was in control This time I was simply a student wanting to learn about a new beast filmmaking Run by writer director Josh Appignanesi The Infide Song of Songs I didn t know what to expect and I m so glad I went I now look at films in a different light Instead of concentrating on the story only I look deeper I look at colour and tone shadows and light Where is the camera placed Is it a close up A point of view shot What is it that makes the film a drama a comedy or a thriller For the past seven months I ve been working on a screenplay for a feature film comedy and after taking part in this course I ve read it again and made some edits I ve also started to write a TV screenplay for The Adventures of Autumn Day No one knows
