  • Class Adults Dogs Vaccination Cards are required on week one of your first course Meet our Trainers Gill Charles G ill became a member of SOATC back in 2004 with her first rescue dog Harvey who had issues towards other dogs Through other trainers there Gill became very interested in how dogs think and learn our relationship with them and the use of positive training methods has shown her how intelligent and adaptable they really are Through the club they worked their way through to Gold level Obedience and passed all levels of the KCGood Citizen Scheme Both Gill s other rescues are working towards the same aim In 2008 Gill achieved a 3 year Foundation Degree in Canine Behaviour and Training at Bishop Burton college Part of Gill s work experience whilst at college was teaching classes at SOATC during 2007 offering training techniques and basic behavioural advice to pet dog owners We are lucky to still have Gill heading up our Obedience section at present It gives Gill a great sense of pleasure to see an owner and dog working together and having fun doing so as well as presenting Club awards to the many that pass our pet obedience levels Gill admits she is one of many lost souls who has become hooked on agility and has 2 dogs that compete on a regular basis Gill also helps out with the training of new starters in our agility classes as and when needed Gill s ultimate goal is to have as many dogs as possible working in harmony together with their owners using positive training m ethods Davina Collings D Davina has been a member of SOATC since 1998 and has owned dogs for most of her life Davina works for the RSPCA and Animal Rescue and part of that work is to foster dogs and puppies that need socialising training and re homing Davina has always owned a mixture of breed types all rescues from collies lurchers terriers and crossbreeds which have all been trained using only positive reward based methods Whilst they are very well behaved usually they also retain their cheeky fun loving nature Davina s interest in dog behaviour their needs and training methods led her to achieve a HNC in Canine Behaviour and Training She fully enjoys teaching her dogs new and stimulating activities which include fun tricks and Heelwork to Music moves She has competed in flyball at Crufts and competitive obedience passing all levels of the KC Good Citizen Scheme Davina now competes in agility and continues to seek and devise new games and activities that will stimulate her dogs brains and encourage them to learn Tracey Ridley Tracey has been a member of SOATC for approx 1993 years when she began training with her German Shepherd Tuscani In those days training methods were based on punishment or force Thankfully times and people s attitudes towards training dogs has changed towards the more successful and much to all dogs relief

  • For Puppies 5 months and all new dogs handlers Sunday Up to and including 13th October 2013 Arrive for 12 15pm set up Class to start once set up is complete Class duration Approx 1hr Notes classes then change to a Saturday from 19th October 2013 Pre Competition For dogs that have progressed from the Foundation Class Sunday Arrive for 10am set up Class to start once set up is complete Class duration Approx 1hr 30mins Grades 1 4 Sunday Arrive for 10am set up Class to start once set up is complete Class duration Approx 1hr 30mins Grades 5 7 Sunday Arrive for 12 00pm set up Class to start once set up is complete Class duration Approx 1hr 30mins IMPORTANT NOTES Class duration times are approximate and will depend on numbers in class For information on training please contact us via our contact page Meet our Trainers Bell McLeish Bell currently trains our new handlers and new dogs to a level where they can negotiate all obstacles in a safe manner Bell has been training dogs and handlers to do Agility for over 15 years and competes purely for enjoyment and fun She currently competes with Ebony collie oodle and Lace Border Collie b oth at grade 3 Marilyn Murphy Marilyn s daughter Helen began a very successful agility partnership with her Working Sheepdog Gemma in 1998 Marilyn was her chauffeur as they travelled around the country with their tiny dome tent They were hooked from the start In November 1999 Marilyn bought Sally and began competing in 2001 Sally taught Marilyn a great deal and managed to get to Grade 6 In 2003 Flyte Borderstorm Take Flyte arrived Flyte is Marilyn s once in a lifetime dog Flyte is incredibly fast and Marilyn really struggled controlling his speed He would flatten any obstacle in his way including breaking weave poles When they started competing the one thing Marilyn was confident of was that Flyte would stop on his contacts However poles were scattered everywhere Marilyn now works at Grade 7 and has competed at Crufts in the team Competition at the Olympia final in 2008 and also in a number of Championship finals Marilyn is trying out for the Great Britain Agility teams this year Marilyn says Well the way I look at it if you donà â â t try you will never succeed My dog is good enough I just hope I am Marilyn has a new addition to the family Flyte am s nephew Trek and is currently competing at Grade 4 Marilyn s classes are based around teaching Grade 1 4 handlers and dogs specific combinations and handling skills that are required for progression into competition agility Julie Chapman J ulie has been competing in agility since 2002 and currently runs two dogs Scotch Detania Rocket Fuel working at grade 6 Oz Indistorm Warning working at grade 7 She first started competing with Saxon her first ever border collie and learnt very early

  • team However it is Border Collies that dominate the sport due to their speed agility and desire to work Scunthorpe do however run some very quick Labradors and Crossbreeds in their teams Training A very noisy occasion Summer Training Day TBC Time TBC New Starters New Juniors Day TBC Time TBC Competition Class Day TBC Time TBC Juniors Competition Class Winter Training Saturday 1 30pm We are up and running again with our flyball training Please feel free to pop along to our training venue on a Saturday afternoon and have a chat with Vaughan if you are interested in taking up flyball We are currently looking for adults and juniors for new teams To qualify as a junior you need to be aged between 6 24 inclusive For information on training and the next New Starters Juniors course please contact us via the contact page Meet our Trainer Vaughan Bailey Vaughan is the trainer for both our adult and junior flyball teams Vaughan started training our juniors in 2005 and since then they have qualified for Crufts every year So are we any good In 2001 we entered our first Crufts Qualifying Competition came second and incredibly qualified for the Crufts Finals Unfortunately inexperience meant we went no further and did not progress beyond the first round at Crufts We have continued to qualify for Crufts almost every year since 2001 2008 saw us qualify two teams for the 2009 Crufts Finals â The Scunthorpe Steelers were knocked out at the quarter final stage but The Scunthorpe Hustlers won their quarter final qualifying them for them for the semi final Unfortunately they were knocked out at this stage by the eventual winners In 2009 the Kennel Club decided to change the box to the BFA style box for health
