    The Bell Newcastle Races Code JBKGL097 Email to a Friend 168 00 In Stock Add to cart By Jay Boyd Kirkman Image size 20 x 12 50 x 30 cms This painting of Jay Boyd Kirkman is a racecourse scene based on the parade ring at Newcastle after the bell has rung warning the jockeys to mount their horses Composed as though the viewer is at the ringside the nearest two horses are moving past and the heads are seen only in part on either side of the picture In the centre racehorses jockeys and grooms are lining up on the path to parade before going out for a hurdle race Several of the horses are based on local heroes of National Hunt jumps racing In the distance some partial views of the white railed course and woodland boundary can be seen Above is what the artist describes as a big sky broken clouds and strong autumn winds This Gouttelette Limited Edition print has been published with light fast inks to BS1006 standard onto acid free calcium carbonate buffered stock mould made from 100 cotton and sourced from environmentally conscious paper suppliers Related Items After the Race 480 00 Attraction

  • At the Races (Going Out at Kempton)
    is a fine demonstration of the genius of arguably Britain s finest equestrian artist This painting depicts racehorses being walked up the track before a race to line up for the start of a race at Kempton Kempton Park Racecourse is a horse racing track in Sunbury on Thames Surrey England 16 miles from Central London Munnings has captured the openness of the Kempton Park which is set in 210 acres of land The racecourse was the idea of 19th century businessman and Conservative Party agent S H Hyde who was enjoying a carriage drive in the country when he came across Kempton Manor and Park for sale Hyde leased the grounds in 1872 and six years later in July 1878 Kempton opened as a racecourse Munnings was fascinated by the racehorse and was a great racegoer The jockeys are depicted in their different colours and designs and the horses are eager and strong with gleaming coats gliding over their tight muscles Unlike the finish of a race which passed in a fleeting moment the start of a race gave the artist more time to record his impressions in the days before starting stalls additional inspiration was given by the

  • Battle of the Giants
    This is a hugely impressive painting by one of the twentieth century s finest sporting artists Lionel Edwards proficiency in depicting equestrian sports was unsurpassed and his prolific output during a long career assured him of a deserved celebrity that has lasted to this day The difficulty of portraying horses moving at speed had thwarted the ambitions of many equestrian artists but it was a challenge that Edwards relished and one which he was well qualified to surmount If the horsemen can be slightly strung out he wrote that is following each other without long gaps between them and partially eclipsed by each other so much the better The whole thing is very tricky and wants far greater thought than we usually give to it This painting was executed in 1962 towards the end of Edwards career He turned 84 that year but had lost none of his zest for life and continued to hunt well into his ninth decade During the last twenty years of his life his close friend Kathleen Aldridge remarked Lionel painted entirely to give other people pleasure and for his own pleasure certainly not for the money This simple love of his work and of
