  • poor weather performance results on the day were high with SportsAble coming out as leaders in most events I m pleased to say that SportsAble managed to retain ownership of the top two trophies Best Overall Team and Track Field reports Head of Sports Nick Gibbs We had a really fantastic team out on Saturday and three of our athletes Helen Johnson Richard Barton and Scott Denton won the first second and third places overall with 21 20 and 16 points respectively 45 volunteers from organisations such as Newlands Girls School join forces with SportsAble members to make the six hour sporting extravagana happen Athletes of all ages and abilities were able to take part in groupings according to their specific disability Gold silver and bronze medals were awarded in each sport with trophies being given out to the team with the highest points Thirteen year old Lochlan O Higgins a new member to SportsAble who won four medals on the day in kurling table tennis skittles and the 100 metre wheelchair race said I really enjoyed the day and thought it was brilliant As well as raising the profile of disability sport in the south east the SportsAble Games was an unexpected fundraiser on the day too with 427 57 being raised in tombola raffle and fun games A presentation was also made during the day by Ascot Round Table who visited the centre to meet with its members and present a rather grand cheque of 10 000 a year s worth of fundraising that was donated to SportsAble Join Us Join Only 40 a year with reduced rates for families Sign up now Membership The benefits and entitlements it brings Find out more Members How we ve helped a wide range of disabled athletes Read more Donate Why
