  • entertainment for the members and performed by the members Thank you to everyone who gave us an evening to remember but a special vote of thanks must go to Geoff Mason who co ordinated the event SportsAble definitely has talent And speaking of talent what a day we had at our PUSHyourself event on 20thSeptember I was moved to tears more than once I can tell you by the undefeatable effort and determination displayed by members young and old who really gave it their all on the day Whether they were trying something new for the first time or setting themselves a great challenge like Jamie Tearle did their SportsAble spirit shone through and itwas very humbling experience to watch We must all congratulate young Jamie not just for his 1 hour Record Attempt and the hours and hours of training that he did in the months leading up to the event but for his attitude and approach to pushing himself What an inspirational young man he is and on the day he inspired scores of others to have a go to push themselves too I was also moved by our wonderfully warm and caring volunteers who without being asked pushed those who couldn t push themselves around the track so that they too could get the feeling of speed and wind and freedom and applause It was a wonderful occasion and the things I witnessed on that day such as our friends from Invesco Perpetual working hard on the car park and cakes stall Ben Harris and Keith Pamment coaching little ones on the basketball court families having a go at sport for the first time together thanks archers for making that happen our Paralympians supporting the next generation and our members coming together to welcome in potential new

  • all that you offer said one lady who spent the day with her husband and three sons Special guest on the day was London 2012 track star Paralympian Jamie Carter who came along to inspire people to take up racing Jamie chatted to members and volunteers about his exciting career so far as one of the UK s top T34 racers before pace setting for one of our own members 17 year old Jamie Tearle as he took to the track to set a SportsAble record forthe longest distance achieved in an hour Supported by lots of family and his SportsAble Rockets Wheelchair Basketball team mates Jamie Tearle pushed himself around the athletics track for one solid hour never giving up once His speed and stamina were outstanding and he managed to reach an incredible nine miles in an hour Quite an achievement forsomeone who has just taken up the sport However Jamie s greatest achievement on the day was getting other people involved Fifteen minutes into his record attempt other members felt inspired to join him on the track and many for the first time ever pushed ran or walked as far as they could feeling that anything is possible Says PUSHyourself s organsiser John Ireland There is a can do spirit in SportsAble that I ve never witnessed in any company I ve worked for in the past This feeling that permeates the club and its members came to a head in the one hour Distance Record What was supposed to be one young man versus the clock turned into the remarkable sight of anyone who could walk run push or be pushed wanting to join him as encouragement and to enjoy the opportunity to be part of something much bigger than a record attempt How would I
