  • Clinical Research Associates: agency or your own devices?
contacted by multiple recruiters from different agencies who didn t understand them or the industry a fair complaint Conclusions So what conclusions can be drawn from this It seems to me that job seekers are receptive to agencies but those agencies must be good if the job is the deal breaker then agencies are the right way to go but candidates must be selective when it comes to choosing the recruiters who ll represent them If the job is the most important thing then agencies are the best option It goes without saying that agencies can provide the breadth of roles they re likely to have the juiciest roles that aren t accessible via other means Another thing to consider is that many clients recruit via agencies exclusively and won t accept direct applications Good agencies have knowledgeable recruiters who know their clients really well recruiter and client may have worked with one another for years and so trust each other s judgement this might and often does get a candidate s foot in a door that might otherwise have been firmly closed all 3 subjects agreed that agency staff would probably work hard to get them an interview Be exclusive Multiple calls about the same role are unavoidable if you choose to work with multiple agencies The answer Pick the right one and work with them exclusively Choose an agency with a strong successful heritage in your sector and check out the consultants LinkedIn profiles to make sure they know what they re talking about Once you ve made your choice you can confidently work on an exclusive basis knowing that one person from a single agency who knows you and your career aspirations will contact you about relevant opportunities only Simple Tell us what you think Are there

  • CROs: will their investment in in-house recruitment teams continue at the expense of recruitment agencies?
is here to stay I ve also wondered whether this strategy has actually saved CROs a significant sum of money or has the cost of employing office based permanent recruiters amounted to pretty much the same sum in the grand scheme of things I suspect the former is true but would be interested to see independent data if someone s published it But where will this leave us if and when the industry starts to grow again Will CROs just expand their recruitment teams or will they have no choice but to revert back to relying on agencies once more I suspect in reality that the chips will fall somewhere in between the two Another variable in the equation is the introduction of online recruitment databases such as Taleo and Brassring CROs have invested heavily in these technologies and will surely want their return on investment to continue As such I suspect CROs will be pressurised into maintaining self reliance at least in the short term despite economic recovery In my own experience of working and recruiting for CROs it s only when they need 20 30 local CRAs to fulfil a contractual obligation that they return wholeheartedly to agencies And so this leads me to my final question If the latter scenario materialises will CROs expect agencies to work to the same terms That s terms that post recession have become more client friendly And will they expect the same level of commitment that agencies are currently showing to their more loyal pharma and biotech clients Of course they will This entry was posted in About Star Comment and tagged Clinical Research clinical trials Contract research organisation CRO recruitment agency Star Star Medical Bookmark the permalink Archives Archives Select Month February 2016 1 January 2016 1 November 2015 5
