  • Private healthcare vs. the NHS
NHS constitution now mirrors this Everyone who is cared for by the NHS in England has formal rights to make choices about the service that they receive These include the right to choose a GP surgery to state which GP you d like to see to choose which hospital you re treated at and to receive information to support your choices 2 Private healthcare vs the NHS Comfort Don t expect mixed gender wards or lack of privacy in a private hospital They provide relaxing and high quality rooms you may even have an en suite bathroom You ll benefit from non restricted visitation hours and a greater choice of food and you re more likely to be seen by the same consultant Private healthcare vs the NHS Breadth of treatment Private healthcare insurance doesn t cover all treatments and your treatment will be dependent on your level of insurance You might not find the same depth of experience for complex treatments in private hospitals as you would on the NHS The NHS won t pay for some niche drugs because of cost you re more likely to have access to those sorts of drugs if you re being treated privately Private healthcare vs the NHS Cost Cost is the main reason why people stay with the NHS it provides free treatment to millions 365 days per year The price of private healthcare varies depending on your level of cover and whether you use pay as you go options ActiveQuote Health says monthly premiums for male non smokers with no policy excess is approx 31 for a 25 year old 41 for a 35 year old 49 for a 45 year old and 65 for a 55 year old 3 Price varies on a pay as you go option depending

  • The Pharmaceutical Sales Industry; Recession, Redundancy and Restructure.
the industry s most successful products loomed Recession Redundancy and Restructure were the 3 Rs that characterised the decade for pharma and had a huge impact on the mood of employees as revealed by the results of Pf s Company Perception Motivation and Satisfaction Survey In 2001 Big Pharma was king GSK Pfizer MSD Janssen Cilag and Lilly were voted the most desirable companies to work for but it seems that the desire of working for a major organisation has faded throughout the decade and it s medium sized companies like Boehringer Ingelheim Roche Novo Nordisk and Abbott securing the top spots with Lilly the only Big Pharma member to have retained its top 5 position Pf claim this is likely to have been influenced by the dramatic field force cuts undergone at these companies This is also reflected in a reduction of experienced staff as the oldest and most expensive employees are inevitably the first to go in any workforce cull Two thirds of survey respondents had more than eight years experience in 2008 this fell to 13 in 2009 The fact that job security has made its way up the list of top motivators to number 4 also emphasises the effect that these large scale redundancies have had on the psyche of the workforce How do you think the pharmaceutical sales industry has changed over a decade Do you think these trends will continue You can influence the outcome now by taking 10 minutes to complete the survey online Click here to access Pf s article Michael works in Star s pharmaceutical team To talk about your recruitment needs or if you re searching for your next opportunity you can reach him on 01628 581 240 or email michael kan starmedical co uk This entry was posted in

  • The Medical Sales Representative: what does the future hold?
a multitude of once blockbuster drugs have moved to the generics market and no longer sustain market share The bulk of prescribing is now for the use of lower cost generic brands and the old argument of clinical effectiveness is no longer as relevant as it has been In reality the combination of harder access and fewer new branded medicines being available has meant that many companies have had no choice but to make traditional med reps redundant What about pharma s customers The complexity of pharma s customer base has increased significantly Medical Sales Representatives are dealing mainly with prescribers but also with policy makers payers and patient groups as well This calls for a radically different approach In recent years many of our medical reps have evolved into healthcare development roles More recently pharmaceutical companies have evaluated and then moved away from a national marketing message They understand the need to listen to local NHS needs and tailor their product and service offering Companies have taken on board the Regional Access Director model and have more recently evolved it again towards a hybrid position These people could find themselves tackling market access managing an implementation team or simply up skilling primary care representatives to focus on payers as well as prescribers So what does the future hold I believe the Medical Sales Representative still has a critical role to play face to face contact will become even more valuable The introduction of CCGs means there is now more reason to sell to GPs again The sheer volume of GPs involved in the 200 CCGs means national coverage is required Medical reps must be knowledgeable and willing to work hard to uncover information that s not immediately available They must be given the tools to do their jobs properly
