  • Healthcare tourism: how does it affect the NHS?
of 1 000 or more each year Mr Skidmore is now calling on the government to introduce new laws to clamp down on healthcare tourism He said NHS services are paid for by British taxpayers who work hard and are proud of the health service that successive generations have built Opening this up internationally free of charge is not fair on those who actually pay for it Mr Skidmore wants all non emergency hospital patients to provide passports or proof of residence before they receive treatment And he believes GPs need to carry out far more effective checks before they refer patients for treatment Under his proposals non UK residents would also be charged a flat fee for seeing a GP He added GPs are often the first point of contact with the NHS for individuals and as such provide a gate keeping function At present anyone can register with a GP and it is not obligatory for the practice to check whether or not an individual is entitled to free hospital care It is therefore entirely possible for a patient eligible for charges to be referred to a hospital for treatment and not pay a penny due to the necessary information not being transmitted Mr Skidmore used Freedom of Information requests to ask every NHS Trust in the country how much they were owed by foreign nationals and how much of that had been written off Of the 118 trusts Guy s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust were owed the most with more than 8million remaining unpaid Next is Barts and London NHS Trust which is owed around 3 million and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is owed roughly 2 7million What do you think the government should do to reduce health tourism s affect on the NHS

  • Medical sales interview; going the extra mile
it ll remind them of you afterwards Take a look at my blog on the topic for more tips on brag files Medical sales interview Visit a customer Part of the job will involve visiting customers so why not prove you can do it By visiting a Consultant Nurse or Surgeon and asking them about the company s product you ll have access to extra information that you won t be able to find online this is particularly useful if you re moving into a new therapy area In addition it ll give you insight to what people think of the company and their products you can decide if the job is right for you Medical sales interview Research the territory Find out what hospitals you ll cover on territory and if possible who already uses the company s products and who doesn t You ll have a greater understanding of how they re performing plus it ll give you a reason to talk to any contacts you have on the patch and how you think you can help Medical sales interview Speak to somebody who already works there This is a slightly odd one as some companies like it and others don t Speak to your Recruitment Consultant and ask if their client would appreciate this If you do speak to a current Sales Representative ask them for interview tips what questions can you expect in your medical sales interview You can also ask about team culture and other things that are difficult to research These few extras will ensure your interviewer knows you re serious about the job and your medical sales interview It ll show you are proactive can use your initiative and your determination But don t forget your usual interview preparation too on competency questions
