    other so they work perfectly for larger groups Being spread across two or three lodges gives larger family groups plenty of flexibility and independence Total sleeping capacity across two lodges is 16 four double rooms plus 8 single beds For activity groups not wishing to share double beds total capacity is 12 people Across three lodges this increases to 24 six double plus 12 single beds or 18 without the need to share double beds A discount of 5 is applied when two or three lodges are booked for the same full week family holidays What the lodges are perfectly designed for With two double bedrooms and a further four single beds on the open plan first floor there is ample of room for one large or two smaller families It s about 10 minutes walk to the beach or you can take your stuff in the car and park in the adjacent and cheap car park There s lots to do a little further afield such as at Mabie Farm Park or the area s ice cream farms And of course you have free use of the onsite swimming pool There is a cot and high chair for use

    acknowledged as the amongst the best in the world offer a total of over 160 km of fantastic red and black graded forest biking much of it along purpose built singletrack Most sites also have freeride and skills areas to practise your technique For more gentle cycling adventure several 7 stanes sites including the nearest at Dalbeattie and Mabie also have blue and green graded routes ideal for families and those new to mountain biking Superbly located for the 7 stanes routes five of them are within half an hour s drive and Dalbeattie is on the doorstep Thistle Lodges are run by biking enthusiasts and have set out to provide the ideal base for a mountain biking break A high standard of accommodation lots of special stuff that mountain bikers look for together with on site leisure facilities You ll also find a seasonal mountain biking offer further down this page Lets start with the bike specific things Braemar Lodge has undercover lockable storage for up to 12 bikes Bainloch has a lockable shed for 2 3 bikes and Bainloch and Laggan Hill have secure external locking brackets You can also put two bikes in the hallway overnight and or lock more to the rails on the lodge balcony Each lodge has a high pressure outside hose for bike wash There s a bike repair stand in each a floor pump and a basic tool kit for use at the lodge you ll still need your own small tools On site mountain bike hire is available if you need extra bikes and there s a bike shop in nearby Dalbeattie Each lodge sleeps up to eight people but for groups of singles there are six separate beds two doubles and four singles that s 18 beds across three lodges

    intended to help anyone with mobility or other limitations decide whether Thistle Lodges would be suitable for them Please contact us if you have any other specific questions before booking To view any page of this website in larger font please select view font larger in your web browser Location and public transport The lodges are located in a private holiday village set back about 0 5km from Sandyhills Bay about 8km from Dalbeattie The nearest railway station is at Dumfries about 25km away A bus service operates from Dumfries along the coast to Sandyhills Bay Parking and access There is space for two cars to park outside each lodge on a loose gravel surface Laggan Hill parking is directly outside the front door for Bainloch and Braemar there is a short sloping gravel path down to the door The 80cm width front doors have a step of about 15cm Inside the Lodges all internal doors are at least 70cm wide and are all side hung the sliding doors to the balcony open to 66cm wide with a lip of about 8cm the open tread stairs to the first floor are of normal width and pitch there are no other
