  • Book recommendations from NW Library staff - Time to Read
the lead character who grows and develops over the series Basically this is the male equivalent of all those vampire novels but without all that romance nonsense Vicky from Tameside recommends Stoner by John Williams It is a brilliant read Best book I ve read in ages It is so well written the writing is pure art and I went back over sections just to re read how well crafted they were Its a quiet story about an American University Literature professor who manages to find contentment in his life despite disappointments in his personal relationships Jan from Warrington recommends Bone Season by Samantha Shannon It s a really pacey fantasy grown from an alternative history with a range of interesting characters and a feisty heroine It would make a good cross over title for 14 A Hunger Games vibe and a few Shades of Grey Vanity Fair The Bone Season plots out a criminal underworld in a future where clairvoyancy exists part fantasy part dystopia all intrigue It s a world of impressive scope accompanied by Tolkienesque appendices glossaries maps and all Vogue Carole from Wigan recommends a brand new title The Summer of Secrets by Sarah Jasmon Sarah is a local author to Manchester and this is her debut novel It is a coming of age story about a young girl who spends a summer with a bohemian family who have rented a cottage by the nearby canal It includes flashes forward to the woman who now lives in Manchester over a bookstore in the Northern Quarter of Manchester It is an assured and compelling debut and I thoroughly recommend it Joyce from Knowsley recommends The Misbegotten by Katherine Webb It s a gothic tale of romance madness missing wards and a little debauchery The cover though whilst attractive does not give a good feel for the story Danny from Manchester recommends Robert William s Luke and Jon A beautiful first novel exploring loss and friendship through the eyes of a young boy The shocking first chapter will entice you to know more but there is a warmth and kindness throughout the novel A book you don t want to end Joanne from Rochdale recommends My recommendation is My Dear I Wanted to Tell You by Louisa Young This is such an engrossing moving satisfying read and the characters so vivid and well drawn that their world stays with you long after you ve finished the book I ve recommended this novel to my daughter who rang me specially to tell me how much she was enjoying it and am looking forward to reading the sequel The Heroes Welcome Can it possibly be as good as the original Lesley from Southport says My recommendation is Girl on a Train by A J Waines Really fabulous fast paced book Hard to put down with twists and turns right to the end I would never have guessed who the culprit was What is Time to Read Since 2002 Time to
