    skills and knowledge with which to consider either entering the industry or starting their own business At each level the course is designed to show progression and to consolidate the practical techniques learnt Stage 1 Course Particulars Course Length A minimum of 210 hrs training to be completed within 12 months The course is designed to be flexible so as to allow the student to complete the syllabus within a timeframe and at a pace that suits them Given the intensity of the course it is advisable to avoid in effect doing a full time 6 week course without any breaks Course Cost 2340 and AMUSF Registration Fee of 60 00 paid directly to AMUSF Upholstery materials are not included in the above course fees but are charged for according to use during the course Stage 1 Course Syllabus Traditionally sprung stuffed and stitched chair Upholstered and lined box with decorative detail and deep buttoned lid Mandatory project written project on Fabric Characteristics Identification Appropriate Usage Upholstery of a Drop in Seat using traditional methods and material Upholstery of a Drop in Seat using modern materials Upholstery of a Stitched and Stuffed Chair or footstool traditional Upholstery of a Sprung Arm exercise frame traditional Bolster End with piping Boxed Cushion cover with zips Portfolio A variety of skills are addressed on the course and will be acquired directly through the experience of working on each piece of furniture During the course the student is required to compile a portfolio in support of their practical work and this may include the following Sketching colour coordination and scale drawings A detailed list of materials used and costings for each item of furniture A description of the processes involved including references to the use of tools handling of materials and health and safety
