  • Q&A with Modern Apprentice & Newly Qualified Turner Access Scaffolding Charge Hand
were encouraged to apply to work placements to help develop our skills and experience so I applied to Turner Access in 2012 and at the end of my three month work placement I was offered a permanent Apprenticeship When did your Apprenticeship end My Apprenticeship with Carillion ended when I joined Turner Access permanently in 2012 and I completed my Scaffolding Apprenticeship with Turner Access this year How have you progressed throughout the roles Before I joined Turner Access I was working in Ground Works with Carillion so scaffolding was a completely new area for me I was a Scaffolding Apprentice learning on the job with Turner Access for two years before completing my Apprenticeship and qualifying as a Scaffolding Charge Hand this year Andrew receiving his Apprentice of the Year Award Would you recommend your Apprenticeship Yes definitely Turner Access is a really good company to be an Apprentice with because they always make sure you re learning They always encourage me to take on new roles and responsibilities with every project so that I learn more and develop my skills across different areas How does your role today compare to when you started as an apprentice The role is very similar as there has always been on the job training so the development has been very gradual The learning and experience I have gained has made me a lot more confident in my ability as a Sacffolder and I have a lot more responsibility now How is the experience you gained as an apprentice relevant to your role today There was a lot to take in when I first started I had to listen very carefully to understand the different methods of work for projects but now I have more confidence in how to complete work by myself
