  • Sash And Sabre  25mm American Civil War
of the day as recorded in contemporary photographs rather than the image so often portrayed by Hollywood historians The bags retail at 8 50 The first bag CS9 contains a selection of 10 dismounted Confederate cavalry they are in a variety of poses and carry a selection of weapons including a very sawn off shotgun I really do like this group and reckon they will grace either a wargames table

  • Amazon  Legends of Araby
of the tales was emphasised so ancient Bagdad is filled with likeable rogues like Sabu mechanical flying horses Evil Viziers amazingly like Germans huge genies and of course beautiful and scantily clad dancing girls Fertile soil then for the designers at Amazon and how well they have done Received for review are two packs each retailing at 5 the first of which contains a nicely produced flying carpet measuring 7cm x 4cm on which is balanced our handsome turbaned hero Aladdin The carpet is particularly nicely depicted with a well detailed fringe and a series of undulations in the carpet as if whizzes through the air The other pack contains a mixed bag of models the first is a female assassin veiled in harem pants and revealing top this femme fatale creeps forward with a curved dagger held by her side lovely girl Next we have a Harem Guard Captain And all I can say is Dad s Army was never like this A leggy well endowed lady her face obscured by her turban and veil as she holds aloft an intricately patterned musket and a fierce looking scimitar In profile this model is a little thin but in portrait

  • Crusader 28mm  Spanish Medieval Range
mail coat and carry a separately cast round shield The first variant wears a fluted helmet with nasal bar and a heavy cloak The second variant wears a simple round helmet and cloth coif the third has his head and neck protected by mail topped by a Phrygian cap style helmet with nasal bar The final variant wears a conical Moorish style helmet that curves down to protect his neck and that bears a cloth band around its brow No spears are provided with the models and so the gamer can decide whether to use wire or separately purchase cast weapons All the figures received were cleanly cast and extremely well detailed and must be highly recommended The second bag contains both foot and mounted versions of personality figures the first is the man himself Don Rodrigo Diaz El Cid The mounted version wears a long mail coat a heavy cloak and is bareheaded the foot version has a plain round shield held resting against his leg and carries a solid broadsword I have seen the supposed original in the Museo de Ejercito in Madrid The second character is Alvar Minaya whose mail hauberk is covered by a surcoat and

  • Kallistra  Hordes and Heroes
are responsible for some of the finest 10mm models available on the market and it is great to see them producing a generic range that takes them into the historical gaming area I am sure that these will prove very popular and hope that it means more to come For the pure fantasy fan however the Hallagor forces will have to keep their eyes to skywards checking for Orc Flyers

  • Reiver Castings  King James and the Glorious Revolution
the Old Glory range each pack contains a variety of poses this has its advantages in that you are able to produce far more realistic and interesting looking units but you also end up with models that are not always as pleasing to the eye as you might like Two packs were received for review the first JGR19 Musketeers apostles advancing with plug bayonets The apostles refers wooden containers which hand from a leather bandolier or cross belt and that carry the powder charges for the musket These are chunky models with deeply carved detail and a minimum of flash mainly around the base and the sword scabbard The biggest problem is the proportions of the bodies in relation to the head on a couple of the figures seem totally wrong Now it may be that the hunched up raised arm position of the model is the main reason but they do look a little strange Having said that I have seen a couple of painted units from this range and the difference in headsize is not noticeable en masse The second pack JGR5 Grenadiers in fur cap marching Unfortunately the pin head feature is far more pronounced with these

  • Baccus 6mm
Pete best are able to produce on such minute hunks of metal Amongst the latest releases from Baccus are a range of Samurai warriors from the great age of battles I did not think that I could be surprised by the quality achieved by the designer in these 6mm marvels but I was wrong again In particular I was impressed by the bow armed models the detail of armour is clearly discernable while the fine reproduction of the large bows enhances the other facets of the models The horses are also excellent and in a range of positions that reflect perfectly the individual skills of the samurai warrior These models are simply superb and the painted examples I have seen both rapidly produced units and lovingly created individual masterpieces are proof that that all gamers are able to produce effective and impressive looking units in this scale To accompany the range Peter has produced a series of highly detailed transfers of the clan Mons or badges which are borne on the banners of the armies and on the small flags that individual warriors bore on their backs The big attraction to me about 6mm is the fact that for the
