    a whole life cycle basis By a combination of maximising the service life and minimising the environmental impacts during manufacture we can truly optimise the sustainability credentials of our products and building systems Gerhard Koch Head of Sustainability Wienerberger AG Wienerberger Sustainability Formula The most significant Sustainability attribute of Wienerberger products and building systems lies in their long service life with low maintenance requirement When the environmental impacts of the manufacturing phase are kept to a minimum and are shared over the service life of the product typically this can be in excess of 150 years for a well designed building then the low life cycle impacts of the product can be fully appreciated In addition the aesthetic appearance of clay building products can often improve over their service life with a beneficial impact on architectural heritage The overall Sustainability rating of a construction product is a function of maximising the effective service life and minimising the initial environmental impacts of manufacture and construction All clay bricks are expected to have a Service Life of at least 150 years provided that the building of which they form part is designed and constructed in accordance with all prevailing Building Regulations and Codes of Practice Although the initial environmental impacts of the products may initially appear greater then alternative building materials this balance is changed when the full life cycle impacts are taken into account SERVICE LIFE Clay roofing products are normally expected to have a service life of at least 60 years Concrete roofing products are normally expected to have a service life of at least 60 years Slate roofing products are normally expected to have a service life of at least 60 years Porotherm clay blocks are normally expected to have a service life of 150 years MORE INFO Read
