  • Wienerberger - Keymer brand officially launched at reopening of Wienerberger factory
    the oldest operational roofing manufacturers in the world is making the fourth move in its 400 year history Its new home will be Wienerberger s Ewhurst factory which was officially reopened by Brandon Lewis MP Minister for Housing and Planning on 2 nd March 2015 Keymer s handmade clay tiles will continue to be produced using the orange clays of the South Weald and the same traditional equipment and processes at its new home The company has invested heavily to ensure the handmade production process is retained meaning that all Keymer products will boast the quality and performance they have become famous for Ewhurst reopened by Brandon Lewis MP Minister of State for Housing and Planning Harald Schwarzmayr Managing Director at Wienerberger commented This is a very exciting time for both Wienerberger and Keymer and it is fantastic to be able to officially launch the brand from its new home at Ewhurst The addition of the Keymer brand which was established in 1588 to the Wienerberger portfolio has expanded our product offering to include these unique beautiful traditional handmade tiles and ensures that this UK heritage brand is in safe hands for the future Following its move to Wienerberger we

  • Wienerberger - Winners of the Wienerberger Brick Award 2014 are officially announced
    brick producing village Unemployed people were trained to carry out the construction works a fact giving the project a special social component A house for all Seasons A house allowing a lifestyle as self reliant as possible was victorious in the Residential Use category in the Chinese Province of Shaanxi John Lin constructed the House for All Seasons from traditional materials like clay bricks The interior courtyards connect the kitchen bathroom living room and bedrooms with each other whilst the roof serves to dry meat and collect rainwater Ravensburg Art Museum In the Public Use category the Kunstmuseum Ravensburg by LRO Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei carried off the first prize Windows interrupt the façade of the museum for the Peter and Gudrun Selinka Art Collection only in few specific places The bricks were obtained from the demolition of a nearby monastery Buda Art Centre The Buda Art Centre in Kortrijk Belgium was victorious in the Public Re Use category Studio 51N4E converted a former textile dyeing factory on the Island of Buda into a generous place for cultural activities Already existing brick surfaces were cleaned and renovated woodwork and concrete columns were filled in Particularly salient is the yellow brick with its almost velvety appearance Cookery School A cooking school located in a former slaughterhouse impressed the jury in the Urban Infill class Sol89 is responsible for the Cooking School in Ancient Slaughterhouse near Cádiz in Spain Bright whitewashed walls are compliant with regional building traditions and special ceramic tiles provide for hygiene and slip resistance in the kitchen The Wienerberger Special Prize The Wienerberger Special Prize which was again awarded this year went to two buildings projects using Wienerberger products the House of Light in Pula Croatia by Andrija Rusan as well as the Paasitorni Hotel Conference Centre in Helsinki

    m COMPLETION DATE 2012 BRICK TYPE Facing brick The Island of Buda mirrors the rich history of the design oriented city of Kortrijk The BUDA factory accommodated in a former textile dyeing plant aims to provide generous spaces for cultural activities at the lowest cost possible Two pentagonal hollow spaces built of yellow brick one inside one outside ensure light space and inspiration The inside pentagon juxtaposes studios exhibition areas and workshops and culminates in a rooftop terrace Already existing brick surfaces were cleaned and renovated woodwork and concrete columns were filled in Jury Statement Vera Yanovshtchinsky the Netherlands It is an old factory and the architects made interventions with modern architecture This project used brick the way we often use brick in the northern countries as a far developed industrial modular perfect buildin product The masonry the way of building it suits this building with the perfection of the material The result however is not a traditional or common one The result is unique because what you get is a brick that makes a fabric almost with the quality of silk where the color nuances are the most striking feature It makes a harmonious combination in terms of both space and material between the old and the new I find it a very beautiful way of creating harmony and tension at the same time it combines what seem to be opposites into a new harmony What really made a big impression on me about this building is the combination of intelligence and sensitivity I have the feeling that they have reached the maximum result by using the material and the design in such a sophisticated way Watch the official video below Photographer Filip Dujardin class bigGalImg Buda Art Centre Belgium Photographer Filip Dujardin class bigGalImg Buda Art Centre Belgium
