    representative body and collective voice of professional rugby players in Wales The membership of the WRPA is made up of Wales current rugby players who play for the four professional regions the Blues the Scarlets the Ospreys and the Dragons Membership also includes Wales 7 s Alumni members made up of former regional members and current Welsh Internationals who play outside of Wales The WRPA was established at a time when the game was in state of flux and the then nine professional clubs were reduced to five regional teams It was the realisation that the professional game was changing forever that drove the leading players at the time to look at ways to protect themselves and their fellow players The WRPA s first major task was to negotiate with the WRU to establish a proper rugby related insurance scheme to benefit all professional Players in Wales The WRPA has since evolved and continues to evolve with the purpose of protecting and representing all the needs and interests of its members These interests include both rugby related and personal matters and you can find out more by perusing this website As an overview these include Mission Statement To protect and promote the interests of the professional players in Wales Our objectives are Provide a united voice and body through which the all members can express their views Provide advice and assistance in issues relating to members employment Work with the Welsh Rugby Union and Regions to progress the game in Wales Provide advice on career and educational development Rugby collective representation on employment issues and representing individual Players through any employment disputes collective representation on Player Insurance issues and representing individual players with their claims updating members on developments in relevant areas of law e g tax image rights and

    Player Development Programme MEMBERSHIP Alumni Sevens Regional International CONTACT Rhys Williams President Rhys is an ex Wales and Cardiff Blues winger full back who made 44 appearances for Wales and had over 10 years playing experience with the Cardiff Blues After being forced to retire early as a result of a knee injury Rhys has taken on the role as WRPA president following his dedicated service and loyalty to both club and country Rhys hopes he can help support the players through his experience in the game Sarah Nightingale Player Development Manager Sarah joined the WRPA in March 2014 as Player Development Manager working with all WRPA members Sarah has a strong education background having worked as a Manager in the Sports Department of a major UK university overseeing the Performance Sport Programme as well as being a Head of PE at a number of Schools Sarah s extensive experience in Performance Sport comes both as a sportswomen and also as a Lifestyle Advisor having worked with both the EIS and TASS and with a variety of sports This has included working with the RYA to support Elite Sailors Hockey and GB Rowing as well as the GB Goalball squad

    Wales agains Romania in 2002 He has gone on to become one of a small group of players to win three Grand Slams including fellow Hall of Fame inductees Ryan Jones and Adam Jones along with Gareth Edwards Gerald Davies and JPR Williams Ryan Jones 2012 Made his international debut for Wales against South Africa in November 2004 In 2008 he was appointed captain of Wales and in his first Six Nations as captain led his team to a second Grand Slam in four years At the start of the 2007 8 season he was also made captain of the Ospreys Jones is one of a small group of players to win three Grand Slams including fellow Hall of Fame inductees Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones along with Gareth Edwards Gerald Davies and JPR Williams Deiniol Jones 2011 One of the Blues most consistent players Jones was near ever present in the Blues team during the 2006 07 season playing in 30 of the 32 matches that season International honours include representing Wales at Under 18 19 and 21 age grades before making his debut for the senior Wales team against Samoa in November 2000 whilst also winning caps on the tour to Japan in 2003 Martyn Williams 2011 Capped at every junior level for Wales he captained Wales under 21 before winning Wales A honours and a first full cap against the Barbarians in 1996 Toured South Africa twice Argentina Australia and New Zealand with Wales and has also toured with the British and Irish Lions to Australia in 2001 New Zealand in 2005 and South Africa in 2009 Following Wales Grand Slam win in the 2005 RBS 6 Nations Martyn was awarded the RBS Player of the Championship Shane Williams 2011 Williams scored in his first full start
