  • Essex Leopards ready for Hemel and Bradford | Yellow Advertiser
Before then the Big Cats face a tough trip to a Hemel side who are up to third in the table having won 11 of their 16 games including a tight 87 85 victory against Leopards at Harlow After winning their first 22 games against the Hemel franchise in its various guises Leopards were brought down to earth when they travelled to Hertfordshire in September for a Trophy tie and were hammered 98 67 so as well as looking to move up the table Steve Ogunjimi s side will have revenge on their mind on Saturday Leopards made it four straight home league win on Sunday afternoon as Worthing Thunder were beaten 75 62 at Leisurezone Ladi Brown led the Big Cats for the third time in six games with 20 points and six rebounds Scotland international Dougie Bennett had 15 points in under 19 minutes while Will Ashby added 13 points and five boards A tight first period saw Brian Nguru sink a buzzer beating three pointer to give Leopards an 18 17 lead but it was a 12 3 run in the final three minutes of the second period which gave the home side a lead they would never lose Captain Albert Margai scored six of points with Brown converting a three point play as the home side took a 40 32 lead into the locker room at half time American James Cambronne who led his team with a 23 point 13 rebound double double cut the lead with the first four points of the second half before Ashby answered and threes from Bennett and Ashby looked to have sewn the game up as the Big Cats took a double digit lead before a 7 0 Worthing run cut the advantage to 54 50 going into the final break Jamie Hayes and Brown doubled that lead with the opening scores of the fourth period and after missing a pair of free throws Bennett made it a ten point game heading into the final three minutes Cambronne answered but Thunder never got closer than eight points as Leopards wrapped up their ninth league win of the campaign The only downside for Ogunjimi would have been his side s struggles from the free throw line as they converted only six of their 16 foul shots but they did an excellent defensive job on Thunder s Tom Ward who missed all 16 of his field goal attempts and finished with just two points in more than 37 minutes of action Share this story The hunt for home court advantage in the play offs continues for Levett Essex Leopards this weekend with two key games http www yellowad co uk article cfm id 110585 headline Essex 20Leopards 20ready 20for 20Hemel 20and 20Bradford sectionIs sport searchyear 2016 title Share by Email target blank Other Stories by Brian Jeeves Colchester fan runs 39 miles to Roots Hall to raise funds for son s rare condition COLCHESTER United super fan Tommy Leggett emotionally expressed his

  • They said it…… views of the players and fans on the weekend's regional football action | Yellow Advertiser
a possibility for us now and unfortunately for Colchester United they ll be playing their football in League Two next season Southend United fan Darren Posnack on the Blues 3 0 win over Colchester United An incredible game at Roots Hall or the last ten minutes were anyway It was always unlikely to be a walkover what with it being a local derby against a team fighting for their lives And the strong winds didn t help either Even with Colchester being reduced to ten men in the first half as we ve seen in the last two games doesn t necessarily make things easier for the opponents Southend kept plugging away and it was no surprise that when the breakthrough finally came It was none other than Anthony Wordsworth on the scoresheet As soon as I saw he was on the bench after being injured for months I felt it was written in the stars Once that breakthrough came the game became more open and led to a comfortable win in the end Southend United fan Richard Smith on the Blues 3 0 win over Colchester United A frustrating game against a team who were here to spoil especially after having a player sent off for a horrific foul Once Brown realised he didn t need five defenders looked a lot better without being too threatening The goals in the end gave the right result but coming in the last twelve minutes made it seem flattering As a Southend fan I left happy Former Leyton Orient striker Peter Kitchen on the O s 1 0 win at Portsmouth The Orient revival continues This was a real test of the O s promotion credentials and they passed with flying colours The O s displayed great resolve while Jobi McAnuff weighed in with a contender for goal of the season A continuation of this form and Orient won t be far away come the end of the campaign Orient Outlook OrientOutlook on Leyton Orient s1 0 win at Portsmouth A solid and vastly improved performance from an orient side where Nolan made 4 changes to the starting line up In came new loan signings Shaun Brisley for Connor Essam and Nicky Hunt for Sean Clohessy Nolan started in place of Palmer and a welcome back to Sammy Moore in place of Pritchard The match was fairly even in the first ten minutes and in the 19th minute Nolan was fed a superb ball from Hunt but he just couldn t get on the end of it Portsmouth looked very comfortable in possession but thankfully lacked that killer instinct in the final third but Orient huffed and puffed created a chance at the end of the first half with Sammy Moore heading just wide from a Jobi McAnuff cross Moving into the second half it took Orient just 4 minutes to register an attempt on goal as Payne s shot was blocked the ball fell to Nolan who side footed his effort

a long throw in to get Manor back into the game after a slow start A minute before the break Rhys Fatt converted another spot kick for the visitors to lead at the break but with just over twenty minutes to go the hosts levelled when Chid Onokwai terrorised the defence got to the by line and assisted Steve Sardinha who sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 2 2 However with six minutes of the ninety left the visitors scored the winner through Michael Bottone although that was by no means the last action of the game as deep into to stoppage time a mass brawl broke out and saw six players dismissed three from each side and the hosts manager was also sent from the bench to end the afternoon on a rather sour note Stuart Marshall s boys did take the points though in the end FC Romania 2 Ilford 1 League leaders FC Romania increased their lead to five points at the top of the Division after a hard fought win over Ilford at Theobalds Lane The hosts took the lead ten minutes before the break but were then pegged back right on half time However the visitors were then reduced to ten men and immediately fell behind to see the hosts retake the lead a lead they held onto meaning the hosts took the spoils London Bari 2 Hullbridge Sports 2 A Jimmy Cox equaliser three minutes from time made sure Hullbridge left with at least a point as they drew with London Bari at The Old Spotted Dog The hosts took an 8th minute lead when sloppy play from Sports allowed Bari a tap in but the visitors almost levelled midway through the half when a Jimmy Cox header was cleared off the line and so the hosts went into the break ahead However ten minutes after the restart an own goal brought Sports level but parity lasted only twelve minutes as Bari re took the lead in brilliant fashion after the ball was struck into the top corner However the visitors kept plugging away and found a leveller three minutes from time through Jimmy Cox and although Bari were reduced to ten men soon after Sports could not find a winner so the points were shared Newham 0 Takeley 2 Takeley bounced back from their hammering at local rivals Stansted last weekend to come away from Chadfields with all three points after victory over Newham Takeley scored a goal in each half and also saw the hosts reduced to ten men as well as their frustrations got the better of them Newham remain bottom after this latest defeat Sawbridgeworth Town 0 Barking 3 The Blues closed the gap on second placed Bees to six points after a fantastic win at Crofters against fellow top six side Sawbridgeworth Town Barking took the lead through James Peagram before they doubled their money thanks to John Bricknell before recent acquisition Lamar Reynolds sealed the

  • Brentwood Ladies lose 5-goal thriller to league leaders | Yellow Advertiser
left hand corner of the goal Crostyx soon hit back with a short corner which took a deflection off of a Brentwood defender to find the back of the net and take the game to 1 1 Crostyx struck again a few minutes later when they won another short corner Despite some solid defending by Emily Wright and Haylee Adams and some great saves by Parsons Crostyx were able to find the net once again following a goal line scramble to take the lead Brentwood went hunting for an equalizer and Charlotte Holt and Louise Humphreys linked up well on the right hand side to win a short corner for Brentwood The routine was well executed to find Ruth Tilsley in space on the penalty spot but a great save by the Crostyx keeper at close range kept Brentwood out Crostyx hit back shortly after for a third time when they won another short corner A perfectly executed routine saw the ball deflected into the net to give Crostyx a 3 1 lead Knowing they had nothing to lose Brentwood flooded the forward line and again found themselves with a short corner This time the routine came off perfectly when Holt found Tilsley again in space on the penalty spot and Tilsley calmly dragged flicked the ball into the corner of the goal Brentwood looked like they might steal an equalizer in the final five minutes but time ran out for them Brentwood will take a lot of positives from this going into next week s game against Colchester Share this story This week Brentwood Ladies 1 s faced top of the league Crostyx at Becket Keys School http www yellowad co uk article cfm id 110560 headline Brentwood 20Ladies 20lose 205 2Dgoal 20thriller 20to 20league 20leaders sectionIs sport searchyear
