    scar tissue was removed from his retina Mr Leggett told the YA I can t put it into words it was incredible I was reduced to tears I couldn t keep my emotions back People were so nice The chairman came down to congratulate me even the announcer and the stewards helped me and dipped into their own pockets Of course both sets of fans were amazing They were giving me a round of applause and handing me money We filled the collection bucket right to the brim it was absolutely fantastic I can t even begin to say how thankful we are Tommy who works for Lookers Ford at Sudbury started out from the U s ground at 4am on Saturday morning and explained I started off at a decent pace and felt really good going through Maldon where I met up with a Southend supporter who did a few miles with me But after about 25 miles my left calf muscle went From then on it was a massive massive struggle It was really painful but I kept going It took a little bit longer than I was hoping for but I was happy to get there in the end As for the match itself Southend United ran out 3 0 winners over their local rivals but the result did very little to dampen Tommy s spirit after both sets of fans dug deep to show their support We are still counting at the moment he said We are at around 2 500 in cash at the moment But with money coming in from the auction of signed shirts and footballs from Southend and Colchester plus donations online I reckon it will be about 3 500 which is phenomenal And he added Alfie slept right through on Saturday so I got a good ten hours sleep He picked a good night for that Southend United supporter Steve Walsh played a huge role in raising funds amongst the Blues fans He said I read about Alfie s plight via the Yellow Advertiser and along with Michael Levy and some other fans we decided to hold a raffle in the local pubs to support his cause It was a lot of hard word on the day and we d like to thank the Spread Eagle Railway Sutton Arms and Blue Boar who allowed us to sell tickets We d like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed We raised 230 00 from raffling an autographed Southend shirt People can still donate to Alfie s fund at gofundme com alfiesvision Related articles Southend and Colchester fans unite to help Alfie Share this story Other Stories by Brian Jeeves Colchester fan runs 39 miles to Roots Hall to raise funds for son s rare condition COLCHESTER United super fan Tommy Leggett emotionally expressed his gratitude to rival supporters af Pennyfather It s there for Blues to take Southend United v Colchester United Saturday 3pm Preview EssexDerby By Brian Jeeves
