consider myself to be a connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination but I do like my wine and would happily have paid up to 20 for a bottle this good So when the winemaker responded with 6 70 and that was the most expensive I could almost hear the angels singing Not many Brits know it but German wine is seriously hot property The area around Mainz the biggest wine producer in the country is one of the world s Great Wine Capitals on a par with Bordeaux Rioja and the Napa Valley The area s hilly vineyards snake alongside the rivers Rhine and Moselle with picturesque castles and forts in between And whether you re keen to sample some of the region s Riesling or would prefer a spot of sightseeing the town of Koblenz is the perfect place to start exploring the romantic Rhineland Historic Koblenz is home to the Deutsches Eck or German corner where the two mighty rivers meet A stroll around the town s quaint cobbled streets is a must and if you can coincide your visit with BUGA the colourful national garden show even better Those following the Rhine will be rewarded with fabulous river views and scores of traditional tourist towns including Bacharach which will take your breath away with its old fashioned charm Mainz an hour up the road is at the heart of the region however and boasts a 1 000 year old cathedral and impressive wine and food markets throughout the year It is also home to the Gutenberg Museum where you can get your hands on an original printing press and the Kupferberg cellars which allow you to taste some of the company s famous sparkling wine or Sekt for a small fee Another town well worth checking

the car that weekend and made some excuses about overtime at work Polaris World was my destination a selection of five star resorts in Spain s south east region of Murcia As well as being somewhat warmer than the UK Polaris World is home to the Nicklaus Golf Trail the three courses of La Torre El Valle and Hacienda Riquelm They are all stunning but the latter was my favourite and not just because I played it well The Hacienda fairways are sown with new varieties of Paspalum grass which means they stay green all year without the need for constant irrigation At almost 6 500 metres it is the largest of the three courses but not the toughest That award goes to La Torre which I played terribly El Valle the third course has something of the Outback about it The locals call it desert feel but it s like something out of a Roadrunner cartoon with canyons cacti and coyotes All three courses are a few miles apart attached to their own luxury resort complexes At 65 Euros per round they are great value for money and a free bus service operates between each site so golfers can use the facilities at each resort Unless you are a resident over nighting means staying at the palatial Intercontinental Hotel on the La Torre golf complex There are more than 1 700 apartments here for resident Brits plus a great variety of bars restaurants and shops Although I was supposed to report on the golf I wasn t unimpressed with the hotel So much so the first thing I did on walking into my room was ring the missus There s a bath right next to the bed I excitedly explained And a Thai spa and beauty centre And all

I could have just jumped in my car cruised up the A13 and done it in style My boyfriend and I had just checked into the Radisson Edwardian New Providence Wharf a sleek riverside hotel just 40 minutes from our Basildon home We had decided to treat ourselves and turn our distinctly average day trip into something special something that didn t have to end as the last train left the station And it s surprisingly easy to make a trip to our nation s capital into a much needed mini break too The Radisson Edwardian New Providence Wharf a luxurious 4 hotel is perfectly located for exploring London with the delights of Canary Wharf a short walk away and the O2 just a hop across the river Many of the hotel s 169 minimalist rooms boast fantastic views of the entertainment complex which looks even more impressive after dark Our suite on the sixth floor was the height of luxury with a relaxing chocolate and blue colour scheme a stylish bathroom with deep tub rainforest shower and bidet and no less than three ultra modern flatscreen TVs throughout What we had come to sample though was the East River Spa a blissful urban retreat and the ideal place to relax after a day spent pounding the streets of London My 30 minute full body scrub kneaded away the stresses and strains of modern life and left my skin feeling soft and smooth The green tea and sorbet served afterwards in the Tranquility Room was also a nice touch and the heated chairs where you can relax and recline almost sent me nodding off Although I was keen to remain in my zen like state and drank lots of water as advised the lure of the restaurant wine list in

ageing treatments while the men play golf and youngsters enjoy fun packed days in the sun The island of Djerba couldn t be more different to the UK with balmy evenings and beautiful hotels resembling Arabian palaces standing proudly near the sea shore I stayed at the stunning Yadis hotel where space was no object and architecture and attention to detail was everything Each room has a big balcony where you can enjoy feeling the warm breeze while listening to the sea and chatty exotic birds The Yadis had its own Thalassotherapy centre or spa where beauticians worked tirelessly to relieve the stresses and strains of modern life from guests using aromatherapy oils Djerba is full of Thalassotherapy centres in fact Tunisia has the second highest number of spas in the world These are places of serious indulgence offering the best anti ageing treatments using new techniques We were given our massages and algae mud wraps at the largest Thalassotherapy centre in Djerba based in the island s most luxurious hotel The Hasdrubal After my treatment I was dying to get into the sea so wandered off to find an empty white beach If I could have set the sea at the perfect temperature then this would have been it Alone in the waves I watched an old fishing boat far out at sea gently chugging along then turned towards the beach and a man dressed like an Arabian prince on a camel smiled and waved at me a perfect moment I ll never forget In complete contrast to the tranquility Djerba boasts bustling markets selling clothes shoes and bags brandishing designer names such as Chanel Louis Vuitton Christian Dior and Burberry alongside traditional arts and crafts The island s serene capital Houmt Souk has hundreds of shops selling beautifully
