    of the UK s top country acts will be at Towngate Theatre Basildon on Sunday October 11 as part of a series of major UK dates Accompanied by his own four strong band it will be the first chance audiences have had to see him on home turf this year You might be forgiven for thinking you know what Charlie Landsborough is all about hugely popular in Ireland and purveyer of fine songs but there is so much more While Charlie Landsborough has long been a favourite of country lovers world wide he is also more than adept at other genres from rock songs to romantic tunes Charlie s own history gives a clue to his accomplishments His songs are drawn from personal experience growing up in Birkenhead in a large but poor family joining the army teaching at schools and playing music in the evenings It was not until he hit 50 that he had his first big hit What Colour Is The Wind a song written round a question from a small blind child a phrase overheard and given to him by singer songwriter Pete Naden Since then Charlie has travelled the globe carving his own musical path

    Basildon in October Steve Wood s debut play You re Never Too Old which premiered at Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year is touring 20 theatres across the country this autumn with a brand new cast The comedy which received a celebrated critical response in Edinburgh before transferring for a run at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds kicked off its tour on September 11 which will include performances at Towngate Theatre Basildon on Monday and Tuesday October 5 and 6 Diane Keen who is best known for her roles as Fliss Hawthorne in The Cuckoo Waltz Jenny Burden in The Ruth Rendell Mysteries and Julia Parsons in the long running BBC soap Doctors and Graham Cole famed for his role as PC Tony Stamp in the long running drama The Bill take on the roles of Tommy and Ada From the moment they meet on a park bench it is all too clear they are from very different backgrounds but as they begin to confide secrets and recount memories could this be the start of something special for such an unlikely pair The story that emerges is sad funny and bittersweet Steve Wood s script is subtle full of telling detail and delightful turns of phrase that bring to mind Alan Bennett or Victoria Wood While Diane is also known for roles in Brookside and Doctors as well as guest starring in The Professionals Taggert Minder A Touch of Frost True Crime and New Tricks she is no stranger to theatre Her many stage performances include a season at the Bristol Old Vic and tours of Same Time Next Year Ladybird and most recently The Small Hand While being most well known for playing the part of PC Tony Stamp in the long running show The Bill other television credits for

    A TALE of murder with a very strange twist is currently being played at the Palace Theatre in Westcliff The Business of Murder written by Richard Harris offers the audience a play that keeps your mind guessing as to what is going to happen second by second Although the play starts off slow it soon picks up pace with a long back story presented through the casts dialogue Set in a first floor flat in London in 1981 the action of the play is all set in the same afternoon However the history of the characters and why they are all in the same flat comes alive Robert Gwilym who plays single loner Stone has a manic comic element to him that creates discomfort Supporting actors Paul Opacic who plays policeman Hallett and Joanna Higson who plays Dee project their characters in a lively way with the odd comical quip The play that is based around how and why the trio end up in the flat It has so many twists in it that it was impossible to fully appreciate everything until the final scene To reveal more about the plot line would ruin it for the audience who have

    Rochford Chelmsford Mid Essex Havering Redbridge Southend Stratford Newham Thurrock Waltham Forest Yellow Advertiser Twitter Facebook THe History Boys at the Palace Theatre Thursday 29 January 2015 By Liz Wade ALAN Bennet s renowned play The History Boys is playing at the Palace theatre until Saturday The play follows a group of unruly boys through their final term at sixth form and their path towards taking their exams to see if they can get into Oxford or Cambridge University It also follows the plight of two teachers who try and educate the boys in how to succeed in the exams A clash is created between the old school approach of teacher Hector and a supply teacher Irwin who is drafted in to boost the school up the league tables The play also has an undertone of teacher Hector grooming some of the boys by taking them out on his motorbike which leads to his dismissal Set in the 80s the performance has a soundtrack of hits from that era Occasionally the performance is interrupted by a song some in French which could lead to confusion unless you are fluent in the language The History Boys is a strong two and
